The Victoria-Beacon Hill BC Conservatives candidate has been fired just over one hour after his social media posts were brought up by the BC NDP.
Joachim Agou is a candidate in Victoria-Beacon Hill, and up until Thursday afternoon was the Conservative candidate.
Just after 11 a.m., the BC NDP candidate for Surrey City Centre, Amna Shah, shared tweets of Agou’s which she said contained “horrific racism.”
In one, Agou is responding to a video of a car hitting pro-Palestine protesters in Switzerland, to which he says: “He should have reversed too!!!”
Another shows a picture of U.S. President Donald Trump, with the caption: “‘Trump: My God, Pakistan looks like a shithole!’ ‘That’s London Mr. President.’”
Absolutely horrific racism from this Conservative candidate.
Attacking the Pakistani community as “a sh*thole,” joking about killing protestors, celebrating white supremacist figures.
There’s only one way for Lorne Doerkson to respond: fire this candidate immediately. pic.twitter.com/8pgMyniYLY

“Absolutely horrific racism from this Conservative candidate,” Shah wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) sharing Agou’s posts.
“Attacking the Pakistani community as ‘a sh*thole,’ joking about killing protestors, celebrating white supremacist figures.”
Shah then calls on Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson to fire Agou.
Then, just before 12:30 p.m., he did just that.
“There is no excuse for this. I will not tolerate it. The candidate in Victoria-Beacon Hill is no longer a Conservative candidate. If elected, he will not serve in the Caucus,” Doerkson wrote in a statement to media.
It is unclear if Agou intends to still seek election as an Independent candidate. CHEK News has reached out to him to confirm.
Candidates have until Oct. 14 to withdraw from the election, though as ballot printing has already begun, Agou’s name will appear on the ballot regardless.
“Under the Election Act, a candidate may withdraw from an election at any time up to 48 hours before the start of advance voting. Advance voting starts on Friday, October 16,” Elections BC said in a news release on Oct. 8 about another candidate withdrawing from the ballot.
“To withdraw, a candidate must submit a signed, witnessed withdrawal notice to the district electoral officer.”
Agou’s bio in the Conservatives website says he is a professional engineer and small-business owner. He was born in Nice, France, studied at the Florida Institute of Technology, and came to Canada in 2011.
He then became a Canadian citizen in 2023.
