A man convicted of manslaughter will reside in Peel Region after being released, prompting police to issue a public safety advisory.

Peel Regional Police said 74-year-old Gil Dasilva was released from custody earlier Friday following the completion of his sentence for manslaughter.

Police said their Offender Management Unit “believes Gil Dasilva presents a significant risk to public safety and an elevated risk of re-offending or breaching his conditions, particularly involving women.”

The 74-year-old, police said, has an extensive criminal history.

They added that officers will monitor his activities and compliance with his court-ordered conditions.

“Peel Regional Police are releasing this information as a precautionary measure to help reduce the risk to the community. Members of the public are reminded not to approach him.”
