It is also a sixth win from the opening nine games of the season, so little wonder supporters enjoyed themselves at full-time, singing songs about their league position.

On a fitting afternoon too, as legendary former manager John Toshack watched on as guest of honour, 45 years since he took the Swans to the top of the old First Division.

It is very early days – with a trip to Millwall on Tuesday and the visit of West Ham next weekend likely to provide stern examinations of their status at the summit – but there is every reason for the optimism.

Matos’ side continued with their style of football that is both eye-catching in keeping with Swansea’s traditional style, but also with an intensity and aggression that is making a difference.

Although there were elements of rustiness about Swansea’s opening half – and Wright’s goal came during a particularly sloppy spell – they have picked up where they left off before the international break.

There was grit shown to come from behind to beat Lincoln, and there was a confidence about coming back into this game too despite conceding for just the second time at home this term.

In fact, throw in the win at Stoke on the opening weekend, it is the third time they have taken all three points from a losing position.

It is a different story for Norwich, whose confidence took time to grow into the game after a run of games where conceding goals was clearly a problem.

But the minute Swansea levelled, the visiting players seemed to shrink into their black shirts and, despite attacking changes, offered too little to test Swansea at the back.

Swansea, meanwhile, displayed their newfound squad depth. Here they were without Canada international Stefen Eustaquio and kept World Cup pair Marko Stamenic and Elijah Just on the bench.

Goncalo Franco stepped up in his first start to the season to impress and show there is plenty in reserve. When Idah went off with a knock, the concern was eased with last season’s Championship top scorer Zan Vipotnik replacing him, while Scotland international Ross Stewart was fit again to take a place on the bench.

The question is whether there is more to come. For now, Swansea fans will simply enjoy the moment.
