U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee told Newsmax on Saturday that Iran is in its weakest position in nearly five decades and expressed confidence that President Donald Trump will determine when further military action against Tehran is necessary.
“I think the president will act when it’s best to act for the interest of the United States,” Huckabee told Newsmax’s “Saturday Agenda.”
“Don’t ever think you will understand exactly what President Trump will do. He will do what he believes is good for America, and he will do it when he will do it,” Huckabee said.
Asked about reports that the United States and Israel were preparing expanded military operations against Iranian nuclear infrastructure and energy facilities, Huckabee praised Trump’s decision-making.
“He is a pragmatist. He’s not an ideologue,” Huckabee said. “He doesn’t ask, is it left or right? He asks, is it good or bad? Is it going to make things better or make it worse?”
Huckabee said the administration’s military and economic pressure has significantly weakened Tehran.
“Iran is in the weakest position they have been in since 1979. This is a good thing,” he said. “President Trump has hit them hard militarily. Now he’s really flattening them economically.”
“As the president has told them, you guys aren’t going to get a nuclear weapon. You’re not going to get one, period,” he added.
Addressing reported attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi militants against Saudi Arabia, Huckabee said confronting Tehran was essential to stopping violence carried out by its regional proxies.
“Whether it’s the Houthis, Hamas or Hezbollah, if you don’t deal with the source of the power, the infrastructure and the funding, you’re going to keep having these things,” he said.
“This is not just about Iran, and it’s not just about Israel. This is a global issue, a global conflict,” Huckabee warned, adding that Hezbollah maintains a presence in 12 Western Hemisphere countries.
“They’re poised not to sell snow cones. They’re poised to attack America when they get the opportunity,” he said.
Huckabee also sharply criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani over his accusations that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.
“Honestly, it’s hard to watch this guy,” Huckabee said, disputing Mamdani’s characterization of Israel’s military campaign and citing Israeli humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
“If you’re trying to kill everybody, you don’t vaccinate them, you don’t feed them,” he said.
Huckabee blamed Hamas for prolonging the conflict by holding hostages and refusing to disarm.
“This could have been over October the 8th, if they’d have given up the hostages,” he said.
Turning to Israel’s upcoming parliamentary elections, Huckabee declined to predict whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would remain in power, noting that the outcome depends on coalition negotiations.
“It’s going to depend upon who can create a coalition to get the 61 votes in the Knesset. That’s who gets to form the government,” he said.
“I think it’s going to be a real cliffhanger,” Huckabee added. “I’d say pop the popcorn, sit back, watch it, but be grateful that we are at least observing an open election where people make their own choices.”
