MODESTO, Calif. —
One girl is dead and another is critically injured after they were struck by a vehicle Friday night in Modesto, according to police.
The Modesto Police Department said the crash happened as the girls were crossing the street in a crosswalk on the 1100 block of Coffee Road. Officers responded just before 9 p.m. from nearby Thomas Downey High School and began CPR until medical personnel arrived.
Both were taken to local hospitals and one later died from her injuries, police said. The other remains in critical condition.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, though police said there were no signs of impairment.
The crash prompted road closures on Coffee Road at East Fairmont Avenue and Brighton Avenue.
