Lasik MD announced Saturday that it has fired one of its surgeons, Dr. Mounir Bashour, who worked for the company in Montreal and Ontario for over 20 years, according to Radio-Canada.

Bashour’s name came up amid a host of troubling revelations during this week’s Enquête show on Radio-Canada.

The first mention of his name was in court documents, in connection with a Montreal police investigation into an escort agency called XO, which involved stings and surveillance operations resulting in the dismantling of the network last winter.

The case is due in court next year, and no charges have been laid against Bashour.

Lasik MD’s spokesperson Jessica Lukian Papineau said in a statement the company was deeply shaken by the show’s reporting. She said Bashour was suspended immediately that night, and that all his upcoming surgeries were reassigned to other physicians the next morning.

“Our priority remains with our patients and employees,” she wrote.

In court documents, Bashour is described as a recruiter and a go-between for the XO agency’s boss, according to Radio-Canada.

Bashour told the network that he had been in contact with the boss of the agency, but he denied recruiting escorts or purchasing their services.
