The Montreal Canadiens have recalled Owen Beck from the Laval Rocket on Monday, the team announced.
After playing on Saturday with only 11 forwards, the Canadiens felt the need to recall Beck. Florian Xhekaj has been dealing with an injury, and left practice early on Monday indicating he is no closer to a return. With back-to-back games coming up, the team likely doesn’t want to go with an 11-7 lineup again. Oliver Kapanen and Ivan Demidov also remain out.
Beck has one assist in four games with the Rocket this season. He has been noticeable on the penalty kill as well, an element that may see him get some additional playing time with the Canadiens.
He has one goal and one assist in 28 career NHL games over three seasons.
Montreal hosts the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday before heading to Washington on Wednesday night. Tuesday’s game is one of 16 NHL games as every team is in action.
