A dump truck driver, and the business responsible for the vehicle, are facing a combined 20 charges after a safety stop by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Officers stopped the truck on Belsyde Avenue East in Fergus Wednesday around 10:15 a.m.
The alleged safety violations discovered by police were significant.
Charges to the 41-year-old driver alone included driving while under suspension, driving with cannabis readily available, improper tires, and not having a cover on the vehicle’s load.
The driver facing charges is from Parry Sound.

A police spokesperson told CityNews Kitchener they were unable to provide the name of the involved business, but confirmed the truck was taken out of service.
That business is facing nine of the 20 charges laid, including failing to ensure safety standards are met, and allowing an unlicensed person to drive the truck.
“Commercial motor vehicle (CMV) collisions carry unique risks. Due to the size and weight of these large vehicles, when they are involved in a collision – especially on a highway – the outcome can be catastrophic,” said police.
“CMVs can weigh more than 60,000 kg. (132,277 lbs). When combined with speeds ranging from 80 to 105 km/h, these vehicles generate significant momentum and energy, giving them the potential to cause extensive loss of life, injuries and property damage.”
The accused parties will appear in court in Guelph at a later date.
