2026 has been a banner year for theatrical releases. Between record-breaking summer box office numbers and a notable uptick in Gen Z attendance, theaters are showing some positive signs of life after years of post-pandemic struggles. And among this year’s momentous players sits one of movie-making’s most renowned cinematic powerhouses: A24.

From its release of Backrooms, which made history by debuting its youngest-ever feature director, Kane Parsons, to its wild, Chris Hansen-inspired story Primetime (that even the real Chris Hansen couldn’t believe), A24 has made it clear that daring storytelling is its only cruise control. And if its latest genre-bending release has taught us anything, it’s that original, risky storytelling still has the power to get people in theater seats.

A24 has over 15 impressive theatrical releases on its roster this year alone, but its latest spectacle belongs to a shocking, documentary-style film that is already making history before it can even settle into its opening weekend. Within a day of its theatrical debut, You Can See Everything has officially broken a major Letterboxd record, becoming the highest-rated feature film of all time on the platform. At the time of reporting, it holds a near-perfect score of 4.8 out of 5 stars.

“A 4.8 on Letterboxd is actually insane; that doesn’t happen unless it really hits something real,” one commenter on X said about the news. It initially broke Letterboxd records at a 4.7 and has already risen to a 4.8 since the announcement. The previous Letterboxd record-holder was the 1962 action drama Harakiri, which holds a 4.7 out of 5 stars with 15K reviews at the time of reporting.

You Can See Everything takes place 34 days before Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes is set to begin an 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors out of millions of dollars. In the film, Holmes invites comedian and filmmaker Nathan Fielder into her home to hear her side of the story. What unfolds, however, is an increasingly unconventional experience that flips the entire documentary genre on its head.

You Can See Everything was originally announced as an A24 “secret project” at the Telluride Film Festival in September, and since then, it has quickly become a cinematic spectacle that has shocked critics and audiences from every corner of the internet. Collider calls You Can See Everything “undeniably mesmerizing,” and FandomeWire says, “It has been a long time since something has pushed the documentary medium forward like You Can See Everything does.” The film was released on October 16 and is currently playing at participating theaters.
