A man is in serious but stable condition after an assault at the Parliament LRT station Saturday afternoon, Ottawa paramedics say.

Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Tyler Leslie said they were called to the area at 4:30 p.m.

Leslie said the man sustained facial injuries and an abdominal wound, but could not confirm exactly how he was hurt.

Ottawa police later told CBC they were investigating reports someone had been attacked with an “edged weapon” and that the injuries were non-life-threatening.

The man was transferred to the trauma centreĀ at The Ottawa’s Hospital’s Civic campus.

LRT service was disrupted

Police tape could be seen Saturday afternoon strung up along the underground entry gates at one side of the station.

Police, paramedics and OC Transpo special constable vehicles were also parked outside the station over the course of the day.

LRT service at both Parliament and Rideau stations was only using the eastbound platforms for several hours due to the Ottawa Police Service’s investigation, OC Transpo said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., full service was restored.

Ottawa police said Saturday evening they had not made any arrests. Their investigation continues.
