COLUMBIA — Dozens of protesters gathered in Columbia Tuesday to show their opposition to the War in Iran. The event was part of a national effort along with more than 30 other protests across the country. Several groups including Mid-Missouri Peaceworks and Missourians for Justice in Palestine sponsored the Columbia protest.

Demonstrators held signs and shouted their opposition to the war outside of Columbia City Hall. The protesters marched from city hall to the Columbia offices of Senators Eric Schmitt and Josh Hawley on Wilkes Boulevard. Staff members from both Senate offices listened to the concerns of the demonstrators.

War Protester Jeff Stack said, “We think it’s really important to show up and to be present for the people of Iran, for the people of Palestine, and for other people affected by U.S. aggression against people around the planet.”

Stack said about 3,600 people have been killed with more than 26,000 people wounded in Iran by U.S. and Israeli military attacks since the beginning of the war in February.

Stack said most of those casualties were civilians.
