MSUFCU takes website, digital banking offline amid cyberscurity warning from FBI

  • October 22, 2026

EAST LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – MSU Federal Credit Union has temporarily paused digital banking services and taken its website offline as federal authorities on Wednesday warned about potential widespread online vulnerabilities.

MSUFCU officials said on social media Wednesday, “out of an abundance of caution, we’ve temporarily taken our website and digital banking services offline to implement additional security updates in response to a website security issue affecting organizations worldwide.”

MSUFCU is updating its systems and putting additional security protections in place before restoring access. Officials said there is “no indication that member information has been compromised” and that they’re taking these steps “to help keep it protected.”

MSUFCU is among many companies and institutions to take such measures, as the Associated Press reported Wednesday an AI-assisted discovery of vulnerabilities in a widely used programming language led governments and other organizations in Europe and the U.S. to take their websites offline temporarily Wednesday as they scrambled to make security updates.

The FBI’s cyber division warned the vulnerabilities could allow malicious actors to remotely execute code in the programming language, PHP, which powers websites and web applications, according to the AP. That raised the risk of sensitive data and networks being compromised, said the agency, which recommended that operators take websites offline if they can’t update them immediately.

An MSUFCU spokesperson confirmed to News 10 the decision to take services down on Wednesday was connected to the FBI’s warning.

MSUFCU officials said members’ debit and credit cards are still working, and their call center and branches remain available for those who need assistance.
