A key campaign promise during President Trump’s second run for the White House was to bring gas prices down below $2 a gallon.
However, according to AAA, the average price of gas is now higher than it was during the Biden administration.
US diesel futures have also surged above $6 a gallon, for the first time since April of 2022.
The war with Iran is the key reason.
The battle over the strait of Hormuz disrupted supply chains, and rapidly eroded global stockpiles of oil.
President Trump says higher fuel prices are a small price to pay to keep Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.
