CHICAGO (WLS) — One person has died in a shooting involving an FBI agent in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood on Monday afternoon, officials said.

The FBI has only said one of its agents was involved in a shooting here near 18th Street and Union Avenue right off the Dan Ryan Expressway exit ramp.

Late Tuesday morning, the FBI again shut down Union Avenue from 17 to 18th streets to investigate.

The man who was shot has died after being rushed to the hospital Monday night. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday morning the man is dead.

According to police scanner radio and witnesses, that man appeared to have a weapon, which could be seen on the ground under the bike after the shooting.

Twenty Fifth Ward Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez has been speaking with investigators on scene and he believes at this time that there may have been a separate shooting on this block of Union Avenue or on the expressway just minutes before the FBI agent fired their weapon.

There has been a homeless encampment on the street, but the alderman does not believe that is connected to this shooting at this time.

“The FBI agents did not talk to anyone at the encampment until 11 last night, so it’s clear there’s no connection with the encampment,” Sigcho-Lopez said. “Tragically, there’s someone dead, so yeah we’re demanding a full investigation of what prompted this shooting.”

The city removed the encampment early Tuesday morning and there has been an effort to get anyone unhoused into a nearby facility.

The FBI said in a statement, “The FBI is reviewing an agent-involved shooting which occurred on October 26, 2026, near West 18th and South Union Avenue in Chicago. The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide”
