Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) expressed deep concern about the upcoming midterms, admitting on the latest episode of his podcast, “The Verdict,” that he is “deeply worried” about Democrats taking back the House and Senate — and winning every statewide election in Texas.
“Overall, I am deeply, deeply worried,” Cruz said during the episode released Friday, adding: “What we’re seeing across the country is massive Democrat turnout. Democrats are showing up, they’re energized, they hate, hate, hate Donald Trump. And I don’t want to bury the lede.”
He warned, “I want to start with the bad news right now: If the election were over today, if just the early votes that have been cast so far were counted, Republicans would lose massively. It would not be close. We would lose both the House and the Senate. It would be a bloodbath.”
Democrats are turning out early to cast their votes in person in record numbers for a midterm election, surpassing or matching Republicans in key states, and many polls and experts predict Democrats will win majorities in both the House and Senate.
“By the way, Texas is excruciatingly close,” Cruz warned Friday. “Understand, we could lose Texas. Let me repeat that: We could lose Texas. And by the way, not just the Senate race, we could lose every single statewide race in Texas — that’s how close these numbers are.”
He noted, “Now, some conservatives, they say, ‘I don’t trust the polls. The polls are all wrong.’ Well, let me tell you, there is a bias in the polls; they do skew left, but I can tell you — having run a lot of campaigns, having examined a lot of numbers — these data are not fake.”
Polls show Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico leading in his race against GOP opponent Ken Paxton, who was backed by Trump despite a litany of past scandals, and Democratic gubernatorial challenger Gina Hinojosa closely trailing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
“The Democrats are massively out-turning out the Republicans,” said Cruz. “We gotta fix that.”
Cruz warned fellow Republicans that this is “the most important midterm” election of their lives.

Cruz, who added that this is “the most important midterm, I believe, of our lifetimes,” wasn’t the only MAGA supporter to make a final push for Trump’s GOP. Elon Musk, who infamously spearheaded the so-called Department of Government Efficiency under Trump, did, too.
The tech trillionaire, whose companies receive billions in federal contracts, has been accused of using DOGE to gut regulatory agencies that were investigating his businesses — and warned a Democratic sweep would herald the “end” of American democracy.
Cruz has frequently voiced support for Trump, his former rival in the 2016 presidential election, and staunchly supports the Iran war. The Republican, who infamously flew to Cancun in 2021 during deadly winter weather in Texas, has even publicly praised Trump’s “balls.”
Trump himself recently took a different approach in complimenting his fellow Republican, telling reporters and rallygoers that Cruz would make an ideal Supreme Court Justice candidate — as both Democrats and Republicans “can’t stand him” as a senator.
