Manchester United are doing everything they can to make a late attempt to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa ahead of Monday night’s 7pm deadline, according to reports.
United have been linked with the Argentina international throughout the window and were reportedly unsuccessful with a loan proposal. A new goalkeeper has been on Ruben Amorim’s radar throughout the window amid uncertainty over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
Bayindir has started all three of United’s Premier League games this season, conceding four goals. Onana failed to cover himself in glory during the humiliating cup exit to Grimsby Town in his single appearance.
In the last two weeks, Royal Antwerps’ Senne Lammens appeared to be the most likely addition with the Belgian expected to come in and compete for the number one spot. However, that move has gone quiet recently.
Now, with one day left of the transfer window, United are now reportedlyprioritising Martinez and are considering a late move to land the World Cup winner. Fabrizio Romano has now reported that United have made an approach to Villa for Martinez having agreed personal terms with the goalkeeper.

Martinez is set to be in action for Unai Emery’s team on Sunday evening in their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Villa Park. Previously, it was reported that the goalkeeper was ‘desperate’ to move to Old Trafford.
The latest twist in the saga comes in the shape of Villa and Lammens. Romano has also reported that the Villans have made a formal approach to Antwerp for Lammens.
It’s claimed that the Belgian is their main option alongside FC Porto’s Diogo Costa to replace Martinez, if he does secure a late move to United.
But, just a matter of hours later, The Telegraph reported that United had returned to Lammens and made the Belgian their priority signing for the goalkeeper position.
The report states United have made an improved offer for Lammens, and that Martinez is their contingency should they fail to secure the Royal Antwerp star’s signature.
The Manchester Evening News understands United are pushing to sign Lammens ahead of the deadline.
