Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced the signing of attacker Tolu Arokodare on a four-year deal with the option to extend for a further year.

A deal was agreed with Genk worth £24million for the 24-year-old who completed his medical over the weekend.

The Nigeria international is their sixth signing of the window, seven if you include the permanent transfer of Jorgen Strand Larsen’s, and looks likely to be their last.

The 6ft 6in forward won the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot last season scoring 21 times in the league and Wolves will hope he can bring that form into the Premier League after a difficult start to the campaign; Vítor Pereira’s side are bottom of the table with no wins from their opening three games.

It is understood the the club is expecting a quiet end to the day.

Inter close on Akanji loan

Charlotte Duncker

Manuel Akanji is on the verge of completing a loan move to Inter Milan from Manchester City.

The deal is understood to include a £1.73million loan fee while the Serie A club will also cover part of his salary. There is a £13million option to buy clause included which becomes mandatory if certain criteria are met such as if Inter with the league this season.

City signed the defender from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for £15million.

Ilkay Gundogan is another player whose future is in doubt but there would still be options for him to move beyond today’s deadline with the Saudi window still open. The Turkish transfer window also remains open for another two weeks.

Buonanotte set for Chelsea loan

Peter Rutzler

Chelsea are set to confirm a season-long loan deal for Brighton and Hove Albion attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte and will pay a loan fee of £2million for the 20-year-old Argentina international.

Leicester City v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League

Buonanotte contributed six goals and three assists on loan at Leicester last season

Buonanotte spent last season on loan at Leicester City, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 35 appearances.

Chelsea have moved to sign Buonanotte having never formalised their interest in Xavi Simons, of RB Leipzig, who has instead joined Tottenham.

Fulham working on deal for Chelsea’s George

Peter Rutzler

Fulham are working on a deal to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea and are balancing multiple deals as we enter the final hours of the transfer window.

The Times understands they may do between three and four deals.

Both Kevin, of Shakhtar Donetsk, and Samuel Chukwueze, of AC Milan have travelled to London with Kevin completing a medical and Chukwueze undergoing his medical today.

RB Leipzig and Roma have both explored moves for George this month. Chelsea were open to a permanent deal but only if it included a sell-on clause.

Bayern back in talks for Jackson

Peter Rutzler

Bayern Munich are in talks to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea, after reviving the deal this morning.

The German champions had called off talks overnight after making no progress in salvaging a previous agreement, in which Jackson would have joined Bayern on loan with an option to buy.

Chelsea called off that deal after an injury to Liam Delap, and insisted Jackson return to London.
Jackson stayed in Munich with his agent, Ali Barat, and is now once again moving closer to a longer-term stay.

Real Betis Balompie v Chelsea FC - UEFA Conference League Final 2025

Chelsea had asked Jackson to return to London, but talks with Bayern are now progressing again

GETTY

It is expected that if a deal is reached, it will be a loan, although whether this will be another loan with an option to buy or an obligation to buy, remains unclear.

Chelsea have made progress with the recall of striker Marc Guiu from Sunderland to act as cover for the injured Delap.

Jackson’s agent, Ali Barat, released a statement on Monday afternoon: “Nico was ready. Bayern was ready. We were all aligned on a world-class project. For the agreement to be withdrawn at the final moment is deeply frustrating. But we won’t give up. I will fight with everything I have to make sure Nico’s next step reflects his talent, ambition, and the plan we built together. We hope that Chelsea can cover Liam Delap’s unfortunate injury.”

Gil leaves Spurs four years after signing for £22m (and scoring zero goals)

Tom Allnutt

Tottenham have also agreed a deal to sell Bryan Gil to Girona for €10million (about £8.6million).

Gil also had an offer from Elche but the 24-year-old will join Girona, where he spent last season on loan.

Spurs signed Gil for about €25million (about £22million) from Sevilla in 2021, with Erik Lamela going in the other direction.

But the winger has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League and has since been back in Spain on loan at Girona, Sevilla and Valencia.

Spurs agree loan deal with PSG for Kolo Muani

Tom Allnutt

Tottenham have agreed a loan deal with Paris Saint-German for Randal Kolo Muani.

Negotiations moved quickly this morning between the clubs over a straight loan for the season, which does not include any option or obligation to buy the 26-year-old.

Stade de Reims v Paris Saint-Germain FC - Ligue 1 McDonald's

Muani will likely play as a left winger, but can also play as a central striker

GETTY

Kolo Muani has been signed primarily as a winger and plays off the left, but the Frenchman also has experience as a central striker.

Julio set for medical at Palace on loan from Brighton

Peter Rutzler

Igor Julio will undergo a medical at Crystal Palace this afternoon ahead of a season-long loan from Brighton.

The deal is not yet complete, with final details to still be resolved, but the Brazilian defender is now close to a switch to Selhurst Park, with Palace fending off interest from West Ham.

Both Palace and West Ham had been in talks with Brighton ahead of deadline day about a loan move for the Brazilian defender. Como, of Serie A, were also interested but Julio does not want to return to Italy.

Julio joined Brighton from Fiorentina in 2023 for €20million (about £17.3million). He made 13 Premier League appearances last season.

Villa announce signing of Lindelof

Charlotte Duncker

Villa have confirmed the signing of former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof on a two year contract.

The Swedish centre back arrives as a free agent after the expiry of his contact at United in June and there is hope that he won’t be the last one through the door this afternoon.

Jadon Sancho should still be confirmed despite Emiliano Martínez not going to United; the two deals were never linked.

While there is confidence that a deal, which would be an initial loan with an obligation to buy for £35million, for Harvey Elliott can also be agreed.

Martínez’s actions over the window have made it obvious he wants to leave Villa Park and now he is being linked with a move to Galatasaray. The Turkish club wanted to sign Ederson, who is now joining Fenerbahce, and enquired yesterday about André Onana.

Crystal Palace have registered an interest in Manor Solomon, the Tottenham Hotspur winger, as they try to meet the demands of head coach Oliver Glasner. Tottenham rejected Palace’s initial approach on the weekend as their head coach Thomas Frank does not want to lose attacking options before making additions of their own. However Palace have renewed their interest.

Solomon was involved in 22 league goals to help Leeds United win promotion from the Championship last season.

Solomon could be allowed to leave if Randal Kolo Muani completes a loan move to Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain.

Illan Meslier in talks for return to old club Lorient

Peter Rutzler

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier could return to former club Lorient today.

The French club are in talks about a move, however a decision on his future destination is still to be decided. Valencia are also thought to hold an interest in the 25-year-old.

Meslier, a former France under-21 international, joined Leeds in 2020 from Lorient and has made more than 200 appearances for the club. However, with the arrival of Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Lyon this summer, he appears to have lost his place

Reiss Nelson to join Brentford on loan

Gary Jacob

Brentford have agreed a deal to sign Reiss Nelson on loan from Arsenal. The winger has been keen to return to Fulham on loan from Arsenal after being disrupted by hamstring injuries last season.

He was also linked with Crystal Palace. Nelson, 25, has two years left on his deal at Arsenal where he earns £100,000 a week.

Man United agree deal for Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens

Charlotte Duncker

Manchester United have agreed a deal for goalkeeper Senne Lammens worth €21m plus add ons which means they will not be pursuing a transfer for Emiliano Martinez.

Both goalkeepers were considered but in the end United decided the 23-year-old was a better fit for them and the player is set to fly over this afternoon to finalise the transfer.

Sources said this morning that bringing in another goalkeeper did not mean that they would have to sell Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir. It is understood that Galatasaray have reached out about a potential Onana deal in the last 24 hours but their reading of the situation is that he wants to stay at United.

Alexander Isak transfer breaking recordsNottingham Forest expecting plenty of activity before the deadline

Charlotte Duncker

It has been a busy few weeks for Nottingham Forest after a slow start to the window and more incomings are still expected before tonight’s deadline.

Brazilian full back Cuiabano had a medical yesterday after a deal was agreed with Botafogo and should be confirmed today, while they are working on a deal for forward Dilane Bakwa from Strasbourg.

Right wing is a position they are keen to strengthen with a deal for the 23-year-old looking likely in the coming hours.

Outgoings at the City Ground are also a possibility with plenty of interest in Jota Silva. Omar Richards, Josh Bowler and Eric Moreira could also be heading out before the deadline.

Clock ticking down on Guehi deal

Paul Joyce

Time is ticking on a move for Marc Guehi to Liverpool. He would have a medical in London if there is a breakthrough between the clubs in the next few hours.

Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich could still happen

Peter Rutzler

In what would be another remarkable twist to this saga, Nicolas Jackson could still join Bayern Munich before the deadline.

The German champions had called off talks with the Chelsea striker last night and Jackson was expected to leave Munich as a result. The Senegal striker had been told to return to London by Chelsea on Saturday, after they pulled the plug on an initial loan agreement with an option to buy because of an injury to Liam Delap.

But Jackson’s representatives are understood to be once again pushing for a deal and they are hopeful this morning of bringing Bayern back to the table. Chelsea have been trying to arrange further cover in attack by negotiating a recall of Marc Guiu from Sunderland.

Arsenal set to sign Hincapie – and could offload four players

Gary Jacob

Arsenal are set to sign the Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié while they could offload four players. They have agreed a deal with Hamburg for Fabio Vieira, on loan, and Albert Sambi Lokonga, on a permanent sale. In addition there is interest in Leandro Trossard from Roma among clubs. Oleksandr Zinchenko’s future is unclear.

Vieira, the 25-year-old midfielder, has two years left on his deal and returned on loan to Porto last season, the Portuguese club who sold him to Arsenal for £30 million in 2022. He had been in talks to move on a permanent deal to Stuttgart.

The Belgian midfielder Lokonga, 25, has had loan spells with Crystal Palace, Luton Town, and Sevilla since he moved from Anderlecht for £17million in 2021. Mikel Arteta signed Lokonga after a glowing recommendation from Vincent Kompany.

Hincapié will join on an initial loan with an option to buy next summer. He has 46 caps for Ecuador, scoring three times, and can play both at centre back and left back.

Yoanne Wissa has arrived at Newcastle’s training ground and will undergo his medical ahead of the move from Brentford being confirmed.

Marc Guehi deal still possible for Liverpool

Martyn Ziegler, Chief Sports Reporter

There is still a possibility that Liverpool can agree a deal to sign Marc Guehi despite the comments of the Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.

Sources say a deal between the clubs was nearly concluded on Friday — if Palace do not sell it means the England defender will leave on a free transfer next season. If they do bite the bullet and sell their captain, Palace should receive around £35m.

Glasner said on Sunday that Palace “need to keep” the central defender but sources insisted the chances of an agreement are still alive.

Manchester United to still pay 20% of Sancho’s wages

Charlotte Duncker

A full agreement between Manchester United and Aston Villa is edging close.

It is understood that Villa are likely to cover 80 per cent of his salary, which is around £200,000 a week.

A loan fee and easily achievable bonuses would mean that they would end up covering the majority of his wages during his season long spell, which would be a big bonus for United as his salary has proved to be a sticking point in negotiations with other clubs in the last year when they have tried to get him off the books.

Newcastle reach £55m agreement with Brentford for Yoanne Wissa

Martin Hardy

Yoane Wissa is set to follow fellow striker Alexander Isak and get the transfer he has pushed for all summer.

Newcastle have reached agreement with Brentford on Monday morning for a fee in the region of £55 million for the centre forward, who turns 29 on Wednesday.

Wissa has downed tools to get his move to Tyneside and Newcastle have made it third time lucky in bids for the striker. They had gone from £25 million, to £40 million to their latest bid.

Wissa could even get the number nine shirt vacated by Callum Wilson when he left in the summer and moved to West Ham.

He is set to sign a four-year deal, taking Newcastle’s spending on forwards to £120 million in the space of just three days.

Jadon Sancho nearing loan move to Aston Villa

Charlotte Duncker

Jadon Sancho looks set to get the exit he has been craving from Manchester United with a loan move to Aston Villa edging closer.

He has one year left on his current deal and the agreement with Villa would take him to the end of this contract, although United do have an option to extend it by a year, and then a decision could be made next summer as to what to do on a permanent basis.

Villa have been looking for solutions for the right wing as they look to bring more width to their attack.

With Antony to Real Betis agreed and Sancho looking set to follow him out of the door that just leaves Tyrell Malacia in the “bomb squad.”

Martial Godo leaving Fulham with wingers set to arrive

Peter Rutzler

Fulham forward Martial Godo, 22, will join Strasbourg in a deal worth €8 million.

The 22-year-old winger, who joined Fulham from non-league Margate in 2022, has been given the greenlight to complete the transfer to Ligue 1.

Fulham are progressing with a club record €40m transfer for winger Kevin, as well as a loan with an option to buy for Samuel Chukwueze, of AC Milan.

Manchester United still looking at two goalkeepers

Charlotte Duncker

Despite saying for weeks that they are happy with their goalkeeping department that is a position where Manchester United are looking to strengthen today.

The two options are Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa and Senne Lammens from Antwerp. Sources said United would not sign both but talks are ongoing over both players. Villa are open to letting Martínez leave as it would help them with their inflated wage bill.

An improved offer was made for Lammens yesterday, but Martinez was left out of Villa’s squad for the Crystal Palace game as he was not “100% per cent focused” due to the doubts about his future.

Bringing in another goalkeeper doesn’t necessarily mean one will leave and sources close to Andre Onana were yesterday expecting him to stay at the club.

Chelsea want Axel Disasi loan fee and for West Ham to cover his wages

Gary Jacob

West Ham United have asked about potentially signing Axel Disasi on loan and been told Chelsea want a loan fee and the centre back’s wages paid in full. The east London club want to bring in a centre back on loan for the season as Nayef Aguerd is set to join Marseille. Disasi has been linked with a loan move to Sunderland and Bournemouth recently. He moved to Chelsea from Monaco for £38.8million in 2023.

West Ham have also considered Toulouse’s Charlie Cresswell and Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis, although both are likely to need to be permanent deals.

Premier League clubs are permitted to sign two players on loan at the same time from Premier League clubs, only one of whom arrives from any single club. These are separate to signing a player on loan from clubs overseas which are defined as temporary transfers by Fifa.

When is the transfer window closing?

Charlotte Duncker

The deadline today has been moved from the usual 11pm to 7pm after an agreement was reached earlier in the year by the FA, Premier League and EFL. Clubs were informed of the change in May and it is understood it was brought in to allow staff at clubs a more normal working day.

With the 11pm deadline deals were still being agreed well into the night but now this allows transfers to be wrapped up at a more normal time.

As long as a deal sheet is in place by 7pm clubs then have an additional two hours to finalise any transfers, which was always the case when the deadline was 11pm.

Crystal Palace and West Ham in competition to bring in Igor Julio

Peter Rutzler

Crystal Palace are leading West Ham as they bid to sign Brighton defender Igor Julio on loan.

Both Palace and West Ham are in talks with Brighton about a loan move for the Brazilian defender. Como, of Serie A, were also interested but Julio does not want to return to Italy.

Palace are now regarded as frontrunners to conclude a deal for Julio before tonight’s deadline.

Julio joined Brighton from Fiorentina in 2023 for €20million. He made 13 Premier League appearances last season.

Everton targeting Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl

Paul Joyce

SC Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl is a target for Everton in a deal that could cost €20 million.

David Moyes is looking to bring in midfield and defensive reinforcements.

Rohl, 23, is a Germany under-21 international and the club’s have spoken about a loan with an obligation to buy.

Aston Villa monitoring Harvey Elliott

Paul Joyce

Aston Villa are monitoring Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott who will be squeezed further down the pecking order by Alexander Isak’s arrival.

Villa may have to move on Emi Buendia first if the interest in the England Under-21 international is to be realised. Leeds United are interested in Buendia, who spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

AC Milan, meanwhile, made a €15 million offer for Joe Gomez on Sunday night but that was prior to complications over a move for Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

Ademola Lookman offered to Tottenham

Gary Jacob

Ademola Lookman has been offered to Tottenham Hotspur although Atalanta only want to sell the forward. The Italian club rejected Bayern Munich’s request for a loan with an option to buy. Lookman scored 20 goals, including five in the Champions League, and claimed seven assists in 40 matches last season.

Tottenham have been looking for a second attacking player, after completing a deal for Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig. Atalanta valued Lookman around £43million when a proposed move to Inter Milan fell through this summer, after the player had agreed a five-year deal.

Lookman, 27, came through at Charlton Athletic before joining Everton and then RB Leipzig. He moved to Atalanta in 2022 and was named the 2024 CAF Player of The Year.

Burnley close in on loan deal for Florentino Luis

Peter Rutzler

Burnley are close to completing the signing of Florentino Luis from Benfica on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy.

The 26-year-old has given the greenlight to the transfer and is expected conclude the final formalities of the deal this morning. Should the deal go through, it could become a club-record signing for Burnley if the deal is made permanent.

Luis is a defensive midfielder who has previously spent time on loan Monaco and Getafe. He has since made more than 100 league games at Benfica.

Man City will let Ederson leave – if they can agree deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma

Charlotte Duncker

Manchester City are in talks with Gianluigi Donnarumma after Fenerbahce made an offer of around €14million for their Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson.

City are ready to sell their first-choice goalkeeper to the Turkish side but only if they can agree a deal for Donnarumma to come in as a replacement.

The Italian goalkeeper, 26, has a year left on his contract at Paris Saint-Germain but has been frozen out and has no future with the French side.

Ederson only leaves the club today if an agreement can be reached with Donnarumma.

Sunderland in talks to sign Ajax striker Bryan Brobbey

Peter Rutzler

Sunderland are in talks to sign Ajax striker Bryan Brobbey, as Chelsea try to finalise the recall of striker Marc Guiu.

Guiu, the 19-year-old Spanish striker, joined Sunderland on loan earlier this month but after an injury to Liam Delap, Chelsea have sought to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

There is no recall option in his loan deal so Chelsea cannot recall Guiu unilaterally. Sunderland have to agree to the terms of a recall, hence the negotiations after Chelsea’s request. Brobbey, 23, has eight caps for the Netherlands and his arrival on a permanent basis should pave the way for Guiu to return to Chelsea.

Guiu’s return follows Nicolas Jackson, whose loan move to Bayern Munich was cancelled by Chelsea on Saturday and the German champions ended any hope of a further agreement last night.

It is not clear at this stage whether Guiu’s return may facilitate another departure for Jackson, which while unlikely, can’t be ruled out at this point.

Manchester United agree deal with Real Betis for Antony

Charlotte Duncker

The Antony saga at Manchester United seems to be coming to its conclusion after an agreement was reached with Real Betis.

The La Liga side issued a statement over the weekend which said they were withdrawing from the deal because they couldn’t agree on the financial side but now it has been restructured and the winger will fly out to Spain to complete his transfer today.

It is understood an agreement was reached of around €25 million and 50 per cent sell on clause. That had initially been that United would be due a share of half of any profit from a future sale but now it means they would get 50 per cent of any deal down the line.

It is not clear what the individual agreement with the player, who impressed on loan there last season is, after he was looking for one of the clubs to cover the €4m in wages he would be missing by leaving United early. However, United sources say they are no longer paying him anything.

While Antony is on his way out Kobbie Mainoo is expected to stay. The midfielder had asked to leave on loan due to a lack of minutes this season but Amorim is keen to keep him as part of the squad.

Jadon Sancho is one to keep an eye on with Villa one of a number of clubs interested in taking the forward on loan.

Fulham hopeful of signing two wingers

Peter Rutzler

Fulham are hoping to close deals for two wingers today.

Shakhtar Donetsk winger Kevin began a medical at Fulham yesterday ahead of a club-record €40 million (£34.6 million) transfer, while Samuel Chukwueze, the AC Milan winger, could also join him at Craven Cottage as he is due in London today for a medical ahead of a loan transfer.

Fulham have agreed to sign both players, with Kevin due to sign on a permanent basis and Chukwueze on loan with an option to buy, however both deals are still not signed off yet complete, with final details still to be confirmed.

ESRA BILGIN/ANADOLU VIA GETTY IMAGES

The west London club are looking to improve their frontline before the 7pm deadline. Marco Silva said this week that the club need to sign two wingers and a midfielder after an exceptionally quiet window. Fulham released Willian and lost Reiss Nelson, at the conclusion of his loan deal, this summer. They have retained an interest in re-signing Nelson from Arsenal, who they have tried to sign on loan, while they have also been mooted as an option for Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling, who would prefer to stay in London.

Kevin, a 22-year-old winger, has scored four times in Shakhtar’s Champions League qualification phase this season. Fulham’s previous record-deal was Emile Smith Rowe’s £34million move from Arsenal.

So far Fulham have only signed a back up goalkeeper, Benjamin Lecomte, 34, from Montpellier.

Winger Martial Godo, 22, is also expected to leave the club for Strasbourg before the deadline on a permanent basis. That deal is still not done either.

Oliver Glasner stance making move for Marc Guehi difficult

Paul Joyce

Marc Guehi to Liverpool currently looking difficult essentially due to the stance of Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.

Palace chairman Steve Parish has said the defender cannot leave on a free transfer having entered final year of his contract, but his manager is of a different opinion.

This year, for the first time, the summer transfer window will close at 7pm, as opposed to the traditional 11pm. But, as usual, we may still get some deals announced after the fact, if a club submitted the deal sheet in time.

Nicolas Jackson’s hopes of Chelsea exit dashed

Nicolas Jackson’s hopes of pushing through a move to Bayern Munich were dashed on Sunday night as the German club decided against trying to find an agreement with Chelsea on deadline day.

Jackson had stayed in Munich over the weekend as he and his entourage tried to broker a new agreement after Chelsea cancelled his prospective loan move on Saturday. Chelsea withdrew from a deal that would have involved Jackson joining Bayern on loan with an option to buy. They had informed the Senegal striker that he no longer had permission to undergo a medical and that he must return to London.

Brighton’s Matt O’Riley set for Marseille loan deal

Gary Jacob, Peter Rutzler

Matt O’Riley is set to join Marseille on loan a year after he moved to Brighton & Hove Albion for £25 million. The Denmark midfielder suffered ankle and knee problems which combined sidelined him for nearly four months of the campaign.

Juventus held an interest in O’Riley but ultimately were unable to agree a deal with Brighton.

This summer he told Danish media that he felt he had been played out of position at Brighton after leaving Celtic. He also had interest from clubs in Italy.

O’Riley started both of Brighton’s first two games of the season but was an unused substitute during the win over Manchester City on Saturday.

Virgil van Dijk: Of course I want Joe Gomez to stay

Hamzah Khalique-Loonat

Virgil van Dijk has said he wants Joe Gomez to stay at Liverpool amid interest from Crystal Palace for the defender.

Liverpool rejected a proposal from Palace to allow Gomez to join the club on loan as part of a deal to bring Marc Guéhi to Anfield.

Gomez, 28, is Liverpool’s third-choice centre back and featured in their 1-0 win over Arsenal, when he replaced Ibrahima Konate in the second half.

“When he played with the circumstances he is in, personally, he was outstanding,” Van Dijk said of Gomez, who helped Liverpool keep a clean sheet.

DAVID PRICE/ARSENAL FC VIA GETTY IMAGES

“It wasn’t easy, but that says a lot about him as a person, and as a player: only appreciation.

“He’s a good friend of mine, I care about him, so I was pleased for him that he could do it today, and maybe a lot more this season.”

When asked whether he wanted Gomez to stay, Van Dijk was unequivocal, “Of course, he’s my friend!” he said, before accepting that his wishes will not determine Gomez’s future at the club which he joined in 2015 from Charlton Athletic, for a fee of £3.5 million.

“But it doesn’t work like that,” Van Dijk continued. “I’m not the boss, this is not a friendly business.

“Let’s see what happens.

“Of course I want him to stay, as a friend and as a player.”

Gomez, who has 15 England caps, has a contract that runs until 2027 at Liverpool.

West Ham target Cresswell and Harwood-Bellis with Aguerd set to leave

Gary Jacob

West Ham United want to sign another player after agreeing a £20 million deal in principle for Nayef Aguerd to join Marseille, where he should join former defensive team-mate Emerson.

The centre back Aguerd played in the opening two league defeats but was omitted from the 3-0 win away to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, when Graham Potter switched to a back four from a wing-back system.

Aguerd played on loan for Real Sociedad last season after moving to east London for £30million in June 2022. West Ham are considering Charlie Cresswell, who left Leeds United for Toulouse last summer, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis as a replacements. Harwood-Bellis moved to Southampton on a permanent £20 million deal from Manchester City last summer.

Marseille are set to sign Emerson for £700,000 from West Ham, who also expect to offload Guido Rodríguez, the Argentina defensive midfielder.

Aston Villa exploring loan deal for Jadon Sancho

Gary Jacob

Aston Villa are exploring a loan move for Jadon Sancho, the Manchester United forward whose proposed move to Roma fell through two weeks ago.

The 25 year old has a year left on his contract, worth at least £250,000 a week, although United have an option to extend it by a season until 2027 and would prefer to sell him.

Chelsea decided to pay a penalty fee of £5million rather than buy Sancho on a permanent basis for £25million after a disappointing loan spell at Stamford Bridge last season. Sancho spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Borussia Dortmund. Villa have recouped £16 million more than they have spent this summer, bringing in Yasin Ozcan, Zepiqueno Redmond, Marco Bizot, Modou Keba Cisse, and Evann Guessand.

Roma ended the talks about a £17million deal, accusing Sancho of not having the right “motivation” to move to the Italian club, who instead signed Leon Bailey on loan from Villa. “Sancho is a strong player, who was linked with all the Italian clubs,” Frederic Massara, the Roma football director, told SportMediaset. “At the moment, [ a move] is only a suggestion, because it doesn’t seem as if there are the right conditions and above all, the motivation to carry on these negotiations.”

We’re close with Victor Lindelof deal and are expecting others, says Unai Emery

Ian Whittell

Unai Emery will clearly want to sign a senior keeper if Emiliano Martínez leaves for Manchester United, especially as current number two Marco Bizot hardly inspired confidence in defeat against Crystal Palace last night.

“I want Marco Bizot, a young player, Emi Martínez or another,” said Emery.

Ironically, Villa have been linked with Royal Antwerp keeper Senne Lammens, who is also a United target, should they lose Martínez.

One player who will be joining Villa today is free agent former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

“He brings experience and he is a good player,” said Emery. “We are close to the line with him and we are expecting to have some (other new) players.

“I don’t know, is the reality. Of course, we are working, we are busy, tomorrow morning we will be working until the last moment at 7pm, with everything we have. But I am confident we are going to start again after the break, with new energy and focus completely.”

Unai Emery: Uncertainty over Emiliano Martínez’s future not helping us

Ian Whittell

Aston Villa last night insisted they have not received a Manchester United offer for goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, despite manager Unai Emery leaving him out of the 3-0 home defeat by Crystal Palace due to his lack of focus.

“He was not available,” said Emery. “Tomorrow is the deadline and we will see how we finish it. We need the players focused 100 per cent, and he wasn’t.”

Emery was reluctant to go into further detail about the Argentinian international although the Villa manager is adamant that uncertainty over his situation is one of many issues that have adversely effected his team in the new season.

“It is not helping us,” he said. “And this is one of the circumstances we are having now that is not helping. Tomorrow, we will see how we are at the close of the transfer window.

“For sure it is not helping and we have other circumstances that are not helping us to be mentally like we were last year. But tomorrow, we are going to set everything.”

Emery certainly wore the look of a man who is expecting that United offer, reportedly around £40 million, to arrive today and for whom the window cannot close quickly enough.

Oliver Glasner: We have to keep hold of Marc Guéhi

Oliver Glasner was unequivocal in his belief that Crystal Palace must hold onto Marc Guéhi on the final day of the window, challenging chairman Steve Parish to show he shares the same ambition for the club.

An unbeaten six-match start to the season for Glasner’s side was topped by an impressive 3-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday, featuring a star performance from Guéhi who is the subject of intense interest from Liverpool.

But his manager believes Guéhi is a test case for Palace to show they have ambitions to improve upon last season’s FA Cup-winning campaign.

“It’s not the wish or a gift to Oliver Glasner,” he said. “It’s necessary for playing a successful season, and we had a great start.

“We are the first time in European football and I think our fans deserve to have the best players available, and I know if we don’t sell Marc, Marc will accept it, because he loves Crystal Palace. He loves the team, he feels the appreciation he has, and we also feel the same from his side, so that why I just have to say we need to keep him.

“I think this group, players and staff, did fantastic in the last couple of months. And if we want to progress, we have to keep it. If we sell, we accept, maybe falling a step back.”

Tottenham interested in Randal Kolo Muani

Gary Jacob

Randal Kolo Muani’s proposed move to Juventus has stalled and the Paris Saint-Germain forward has been attracting late interest from Tottenham Hotspur among clubs. Spurs need another attacker after completing a £51million deal for Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig last week. Tottenham tried to sign Kolo Muani before he joined Juventus on loan in January. The Frenchman scored eight goals in 16 league matches for the Italian club, who have been in talks to re-sign him this summer.

Tottenham lost James Maddison through a serious knee injury for most of the season, Son Heung-min moved to Los Angeles FC and a proposed deal to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest collapsed. Manchester City then indicated that Savinho, the winger, would stay.

Alexander Isak to Liverpool

Liverpool last night agreed a British-record fee of £125million with Newcastle United for the transfer of Alexander Isak.

The Sweden forward will undergo a medical in Liverpool today before completing a move on a six-year contract.
