Tributes have been paid to a Limerick man who died following a road crash in Co Louth.
Pat O’Shaughnessy, aged in his 40s, passed away at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, surrounded by his family.
He had sustained critical injuries in the collision which occurred on Friday, August 29 at John St, Dublin Road, in Drogheda.
Originally of High Meadows, Gouldavoher Estate, Limerick city, Mr O’Shaughnessy recently lived in Laytown, Co Meath.
He worked for the hardware store Screw Fix in Drogheda, and was well known at St Michael’s Rowing Club and his countless biker meet groups.
His family thanked those who helped at the scene of the incident, as well as the hospital staff who took care of him.
“Pat’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the paramedics that attended the scene and to the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU Department of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, in particular Pamela, Tasha and Enrico and to everyone who has supported us over the last few days,” read a death notice on Rip.ie.
Monaghan Bike Meets & Spins, a group Mr O’Shaughnessy was part off, have requested his fellow bikers to give him “the send-off he truly deserves”.
“It would mean the world to them (the family) in this most difficult time,” the group shared on social media.
A colleague paid in tribute: “The kindest, nicest and most loving happy person I’ve ever met. I was blessed to have him as my manager in Screwfix, all the staff there are family, not work colleagues and he made it the best place ever to work, as it never felt like work. He made my day go from bad to good every time I stepped through them doors into work and he made me look forward going in.
” He was the best person I’ve ever met and he will be missed more than words can ever describe.”
Mr O’Shaughnessy will repose at St Paul’s Church, Dooradoyle, on Wednesday from 5.30pm to 7pm.
His Requiem Mass will take place on Thursday at 1pm, with the funeral afterwards to Castlemungret Cemetery, Mungret.
