Between January and June 2025, as many as 17 films crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the domestic box office, a remarkable rise from just 10 films achieving the same in the first half of 2024.

Box office booms with super hits: Indian films gross ₹5,728 Cr in first half of 2025

Kochi: Indian cinema’s box office numbers have breathed life into record-breaking dreams, with collections touching ₹5,728 crore in the first six months of 2025. This marks a 14% increase compared to the ₹5,032 crore collected during the same period last year.

Between January and June 2025, as many as 17 films crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the domestic box office, a remarkable rise from just 10 films achieving the same in the first half of 2024. The highest-ever domestic box office collection in Indian cinema history remains ₹5,738 crore, achieved in 2022. If the current trend continues, the year 2025 could close with a record-breaking ₹18,500 crore in total box office earnings.

The highest-grossing film so far in 2025 is Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, which raked in ₹693 crore. Telugu film Sankranti Ki Vaastunam, featuring Daggubati Venkatesh, holds the second spot with ₹222 crore. From Malayalam cinema, Thudarum starring Mohanlal stands at eighth position with ₹144 crore, while Empuraan, another Malayalam film, is at tenth with ₹126 crore.

Hindi films continue to dominate with a 39% share of total collections, followed by Telugu (19%) and Tamil (17%) cinemas. Malayalam films contributed 10%. Notably, for the first time since 2022, Hollywood films also crossed the double-digit mark with a 10% contribution to total collections.
