Panthers on the board
A superb pass from Panthers fullback Daine Laurie puts winger Paul Alamoti over for Penrith’s first try of the night. Dogs wingert Marcelo Montoya took a massive risk by going for an intercept. When that failed, Alamoti was presented with an easy run to the line. Bulldogs lead 22-4 after 60 minutes

Burton carves up Panthers
Presented with a last-tackle play, Matt Burton decided to back himself. That idea paid off handsomely to give the Bulldogs a 22-point lead and officially extinguish any faint hope the Panthers may have held. Bulldogs lead 22-0 after 55 minutes

Preston scores again
Another try assist for Lachlan Galvin and a second try for the night for Jacob Preston. Preston’s line running was superb. He now has 10 tries for the year, that’s good enough for the most of any Bulldogs player this year. Bulldogs lead 16-0 after 49 minutes

More adversity for Penrith
Penrith lost their starting hooker Luke Sommerton to a failed HIA in the first half, and now Soni Luke – effectively the back-up No.9 – is for a HIA. I’m not a doctor, but signs were grim.

Penrith make bold start
The first few minutes of the second half have shown some promise for the Panthers. They’ve had two attacking sets and asked a question or two of the Bulldogs in both. If they keep this up, points won’t be far away. Then, after that, a poor error from Jesse McLean undoes all their good work. Bulldogs lead 10-0 after 44 minutes

Game on
We’re back in action at Accor Stadium, with Canterbury holding a handy lead. They’ll be desperate to score the first try and make Penrith’s road to victory all the more difficult. Canterbury lead 10-0 after 41 minutes

How do the Panthers win from here?
It won’t be easy, but here’s a road map to victory.
1- Score the first try
2 – Continue to take the speed out of the game wherever possible
3 – Hope the Bulldogs make some errors and/or lose their discipline
4 – Hope Nathan Cleary and co. run onto the field for the second half

Half-time: Dogs lead by 10
Penrith are down by 10 at the break, but have every reason to think they are still in this match. They have stood up to the Bulldogs very well so far.
As for Canterbury, their defence has been strong but their fluency in attack remains a work in progress.
