Jack Gunston and Josh Battle have both been recognised in the 2025 All Australian team.

Jack Gunston and Josh Battle have both been recognised for their outstanding seasons with selection in the 2025 All Australian team.

It’s the first time two or more Hawks have featured in the All Australian team since 2018 – the same year Gunston collected his inaugural blazer.

At the age of 33, and in his 16th AFL season, Gunston remarkably produced a career-best year in 2025.

His 62 goals during the home-and-away season comfortably surpassed his previous best tally of 52 from decade ago in 2015 (not including finals).

Despite starting as the sub in Round 2, Gunston was held goalless just once this season and booted multiple goals in 18 of his 20 games, including two career-high hauls of seven.

The veteran sharpshooter ranked second in the AFL for goals per game (3.1), whilst also finishing equal-second in the league for marks inside 50 per game (3.2) and equal-sixth for score involvements per game (7.6).

In his debut season with Hawthorn, Josh Battle is now an All Australian for first time in his nine-year career.

Playing every match in 2025, the 26-year-old set a new career-high in disposals per game (18.6) and rebound 50s per game (3.4).

The versatile defender was a key pillar down back for the Hawks all year, shutting down a combination of dangerous tall and small forwards.

Battle lost just 10 defensive contests in 2025 – ranking equal second in the league among all players who featured in 50 or more contested defensive one-on-ones.

Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said the Hawthorn pair thoroughly deserved its selection in the All Australian team.

“For both Jack and Josh to be recognised among the game’s best in their respective positions is a special accomplishment they should be very proud of,” McCartney said.

“What Jack has been able to produce this season has been nothing short of extraordinary, booting a career-best tally of 62 goals whilst averaging seven score involvements per game.

“For Jack to add a second All Australian blazer to his CV in his 16th AFL season is a testament to his talent, professionalism and attention to detail – his influence continues to benefit our club enormously.

“Having only welcomed Josh to Hawthorn less than 12 months ago, we’re delighted he can now be recognised as an All Australian – his first blazer has been built on hard work and his incredible desire to compete.”

“In his first year in the brown the gold, Josh set a new career-best in disposals, whilst losing only 10 one-on-ones for the season. This balance in his game is what elevates him to All Australian level.

“Josh’s ability to win contests against key opposition talls and smalls has been instrumental, his game-to-game consistency is something that is highly valued within our club.”
