The squads for the 2025 AFL Legends Game have been revealed.
After a six-year hiatus, the iconic event is returning to the AFL calendar on Thursday, August 28, at Marvel Stadium.
The return of the marquee clash will mark the 30th anniversary of the passing of one of the game’s greats from prostate cancer – E.J. Whitten – a true legend of Australian football, whom the game was played in honour of for decades.
The contest was first introduced to football in 1996 in honour of Whitten, shortly after his passing.
We have seen 24 matches between Victoria and the All Stars since its introduction. The Vics hold a slight advantage over the Stars, winning 12 games to 11, with one draw in 2000.
The Victorians, who will be coached by Tim Watson and led by Hawthorn champion Luke Hodge, have welcomed a host of former football legends, casting the net wide to ensure they secure the victory. Brent Harvey, Gary Ablett Jnr, Dane Swan and Stephen Milne are among the most recognisable names, while footy lovers and well-known Australians Dave Hughes and Dylan Buckley are also in the side.

They will be coming up against a stacked All-Star outfit, coached by Shane Crawford and led by St Kilda star Nick Riewoldt.
Cyril Rioli will make his return to a football field, while AFLW stars Kate McCarthy and Erin Phillips will feature for the Stars.
AFL media sensation Daniel Gorringe will ply his football skills to this marquee contest, as will Andrew McLeod and Nick Davis.
Ben Cousins is a late withdrawal after injuring his knee training.
The All Stars certainly aren’t short of talent either! 🌟🤩
