Modern tennis feels like a two-tier world: one defined by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, and the other by the rest. It is believed that Alcaraz and Sinner are at least a few levels above the rest of the lot, and there is solid evidence to back the claim, with Sinner and Alcaraz sweeping all the three Grand Slams this year so far. Sinner won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, while Alcaraz emerged victorious at the Roland Garros. There is little that separates Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in terms of performance, but Tennis great John McEnroe gives a slight edge to Alcaraz and called him the ‘most talented player he has ever seen’. McEnroe didn’t even shy away from dubbing Alcaraz more talented than greats like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rod Lever, and Peter Sampras.

“This kid, at 21 or 22, is the most talented guy I’ve ever seen on a tennis court,” McEnroe told ESPN.

“You expect two great players in any sport to give their best. In my opinion, if both give their best, Carlos Alcaraz is the better overall player.

“If he’s at A- or lower, Sinner is going to beat him. That’s what it all comes down to,” McEnroe clarified. He added, however, “This Carlos Alcaraz, at 21 or 22, is the most talented kid I’ve ever seen on a tennis court.”

“That beats Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, all of whom I respect a lot. I idolised Rod Laver, I played against Pete Sampras. This guy is incredibly good when he’s in shape. One of the fastest players to ever grace the court, with an incredible personality and attitude. He has every shot possible. Everything,” he concluded.

Alcaraz-Sinner Dominate US OpenAs expected, Alcaraz and Sinner have cruised through the third round in the US Open. The players haven’t dropped a set so far in the first two games, with Alcaraz defeating Reilly Opelka and Mattia Bellucci, and Sinner decimating Vit Kopriva and Alexei Popyrin. Alcaraz will face Cameron Norrie in the third round, while Sinner will take on Denis Shapovalov.
