HIGH POINT, N.C. — The High Point University women’s golf team has three newcomers for the 2025-26 season as freshmen Makayla Grubb and Eva Lye join the Panthers alongside transfer Peyton Costabile.
The trio come to High Point and complete a nine-woman roster that has six returners under fourth-year HPU Head Coach Lyndsey Hunnell.
Makayla Grubb | Freshman | Stafford, Va. | Colonial Forge High School
Grubb is a highly touted recruit, ranking No. 16 in the Class of 2025 (649 total in class) while being No. 54 nationally in the Junior Golf Scoreboard for all classes. After being a three-time Virginia All-State and four-time All-County/District/Region golfer, Grubb spent her summer heading into college playing in numerous tournaments. She won the 2025 North and South Junior Tournaments and then finished runner-up at two junior golf events: The Granny Invitational and at the Dye Junior Invitational. Grubb played to a third-place finish at a women’s event: Donna Andrew’s Invitational, where teammate Ella Perna participated. In 2023, Grubb was the medalist at the 98th VSGA Women’s Amateur Champion while being ranked the No. 2 junior golfer in the state of Virginia.
Coach Hunnell on Grubb: “I am so excited to finally have Makayla joining us this year! She was actually my first ever incoming freshman recruit here at HPU, she committed before I even had someone for the 2024 class. After our first phone call I knew there was something special about her. I loved her character and drive not only as an athlete, but as a person. She has been committed to play for us for over two years, so the time has finally come! Getting to watch her grow as a player and young woman these last two years has been amazing. Makayla’s drive to be the best is unparalleled, so she will be a big contributor to this team. I know she is so excited for the next chapter of her life, and I can’t wait to watch her through it.”
Eva Lye | Freshman | Naples, Fla. | First Baptists Academy
Lye is a top recruit for Hunnell, ranking No. 75 in the 2025 Class (649 total in class), while being ranked No. 300 overall. After a successful high school career on and off the course, Lye was named the Southwest Florida Girls Golfer of the Year following an eighth-place finish at the Florida State Championship in 2024. This summer, Lye won the South Florida PGA Junior Championship to qualify for the PGA Junior Nationals at Purdue after being a SFPGA Junior Cup Medalist in 2024.
Coach Hunnell on Lye: “I am so happy Eva is coming to play for us. Once I met her on her campus tour, I knew she would fit right into this team’s culture with her personality and fire for the game. I know she is going to hit the ground running when we start because she thrives in a team atmosphere where she is playing for something bigger than herself. She has already grown so much as an athlete over the last year, I can’t wait to see what she is capable of here at HPU.”
Peyton Costabile | Senior | Ontario, Canada | Southwood Secondary School
Costabile brings three years of collegiate experience to the Panthers. She Canadian began her career at UAB in 2021-22 before transferring to Towson the next two seasons. In all, she has played in 18 tournaments with a 76.52 scoring average. This summer, she placed top-6 in the Ontario Women’s Am (79 sized field).
Coach Hunnell on Costabile: “Peyton was an awesome pick up to finalize our roster! She is coming in with a lot of experience under her belt that I hope she uses to help lead this younger team. She has a bubbly personality that I knew would gel instantly with this group, and she has that ambition to want to help contribute to this team’s success. Peyton checked all the boxes I had when I was recruiting her. She wanted a team that loves to win and works together to get that done, she wants a coaching staff that is going to push her to be the best, and she’s got the personality where she wants to be developed and is open to whatever we throw at her. I’m so happy she will get to end her career at HPU and leave a legacy behind.”
High Point’s first tournament is two weeks away as the Panthers head back to the Golfweek Fall Challenge on Sept. 7-9 Pawleys Island, S.C.
