The mishaps surrounding the RTX 5090 continue unabated. After cards catching fire, it’s now time for cards to explode. This is what happened to a Reddit user who was working on a video when he heard the sound of a firecracker and then saw his PC shut down. It was a capacitor that had just exploded…
RTX 5090: a model explodes its capacitors!
Sadly, this is what happened to user RoboDogRush on Reddit. While working late on a video (2 a.m.!), he heard the sound of a firecracker cracking in his PC and saw his screen go blank. At the same time, smoke and sparks were pouring into his computer, and the room was filled with the smell of electrical fire. Anyway, once the situation calmed down, he dismantled his card and carried out a quick inspection before realizing that it was a condenser that had just exploded. In fact, the explosion was violent enough to bend the fins of the radiator just above it, so to speak. Nevertheless, according to the owner, the board was well treated. Here, the temperature was constantly monitored and, according to the user, the card did not exceed 70°C. What’s more, the power supply was a solid 1300W SuperFlower Leadex III, all 80+ Gold certified. As for the card, we found a customized model from PNY. In any case, following these mishaps, the user in question made a request for after-sales service, which was accepted by the brand. Logically, the card should be repaired and sent back to the owner. Exploding capacitors are rare, but they do happen. In this kind of situation, it’s down to bad luck…and maybe not this time caused by RTX 5090s.
