Unseen footage of the infamous IPL slapgate involving S Sreesanth and Harbhajan Singh from the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 has surfaced.

It was released in a podcast managed by former Australian captain Michael Clarke. It is understood that the footage was released by the guest on the podcast, Lalit Modi, the founder and chairman of IPL, who is a fugitive from justice following investigations into alleged financial irregularities.

The footage that has surfaced shows Harbhajan hitting Sreesanth with a backhand slap. An inconsolable Sreesanth was seen sobbing, but there was no footage to substantiate the claim that Harbhajan had slapped him before that.

Harbhajan was the stand-in captain of the Mumbai Indians during that time, and Sreesanth played for Kings XI Punjab. Harbhajan’s side had lost the match, and he was allegedly upset by Sreesanth saying ‘hard luck’ during the customary handshake.

“I love Harbhajan Singh but after 17 years it was time to reveal it,” posted Modi on social media. “Lots and lots more to reveal but that will now only be in the movie that’s in the works supervised by Sneha Rajani on my behalf who ran Sony India as its head of marketing in my time as chairman and commissioner of IPL,” he added.
