Danielle Fishel recently recounted hanging out with NSYNC after her short-lived romance with Lance Bass.
On an episode of Pod Meets World, Fishel and guest Elisa Donovan recalled the shoot for the “Thinking of You (I Drive Myself Crazy)” music video. The Clueless actress made a cameo in the video, while the Boy Meets World star was just hanging out on set.
Donovan thought Fishel was excluded from the video because she didn’t want to be featured. In reality, Fishel said that her boybander boyfriend had just broken up with her after they attended prom together.
“I was so sad,” she said. “I think I also brought him our prom pictures to that shoot. Like, ‘Here’s your copies of our prom pictures. Are sure you want to do this?'”
The podcast host said that their relationship had already been made public at this point. Meanwhile, Donovan revealed that she dated Joey Fatone “under the radar” during this time.
Fishel said she remained “close to all of them” despite the split and even spent New Year’s Eve in Hawaii with NSYNC in 1999.
When Fishel and Bass began dating, the singer was still figuring out his sexuality. The Girl Meets World star said that their relationship ended after her prom night, when the singer came to the realization that they wouldn’t work. Years later, Bass came out as gay in a 2006 PEOPLE cover story.
“We loved each other. It was just platonic,” Fishel said.

The two remain close friends. In 2022, the ex-couple announced they were making a movie about their teen romance.
“The reason we wanted to make this prom story into a film, I think so many people can relate to that story,” Bass said on an episode of Pod Meets World. “So many people in the LGBT community, their prom night was the night they were like, ‘Oh, wait a minute. This can’t happen anymore.’ This was the catalyst for me that made me start to accept myself, which took a long time after that, but that was definitely the first little straw that broke.”
