Magda Szubanski has shared a heartfelt update amid her cancer battle.

The beloved Australian actor and comedian shared a video message to her Instagram that she filmed from her hospital bed.

In the video, she thanked a young Australian for bringing her a spot of joy during her chemotherapy treatment which she says is “smackin’ [her] around right now”.

“This is a special shoutout to little ten-year-old Annabella Willis,” Szubanski began the video message.

“I just wanted to say darling thank you so much for your impressionation of Sharon Strezlecki,” she continued referring to her iconic Kath & Kim character.

She explained that the young girl dressed up as the netball-loving character for Book Week – an homage to the Golden Globe winner that left her feeling very honoured.

“I’m in here having chemo and it really cheered me up,” Szubanski explained.

“I’m very touched and that was a beautiful thing to do, thank you my sweet.

“Lots of love to you, bye now and lots of love to you all,” she concluded the message.

Szubanksi lay in a hospital bed wearing a hospital gown as she recorded the message.

In the caption she reiterated her gratitude for the young student.

“Thank you beautiful Annabella Willis from SA for your stellar Book Week homage to Shraon,” she wrote.

“Chemo smackin’ me around right now and you really cheered me up. Bless you my darlin.”

Her video message comes three months after Szubanski announced that she has been diagnosed with a “rare and fast-moving” blood cancer.

She shared the news via Instagram saying she has stage 4 Mantle Cell Lymphoma which she called “one of the nasty ones”.

“Lovelies. Well. Some not great news,” the Kath and Kim star captioned her video, in which she appears with a shaved head “in anticipation of it all falling out”.

“It’s serious, but I’ve started one of the best treatments available… and I’m lucky to be getting absolutely world-class care here in Melbourne.

“I won’t sugar-coat it: it’s rough. But I’m hopeful.

“I’m being lovingly cared for by friends and family, my medical team is brilliant, and I’ve never felt more held by the people around me.”

Since revealing her diagnosis, Szubanski says she has been showered with love and support from those around her and the wider Australian public.

Last month, Szubanksi was inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame for her contribution to the Australian media industry over decades.

Although she could not attend in person, she accepted the honour with an emotional video message expressing gratitude for all the support.

“The love and support that I have felt, like a tsunami, from the Australian public, it has been overwhelming,” she said, wiping away tears.

”When I go online and look at those messages, every time, my heart lifts, and I feel that much stronger to deal with the cancer.

“So thank you for the love that you are pouring my way.”
