Liverpool have added further to their backroom staff with another set-piece specialist, following the change of roles for Aaron Briggs to set-piece coach.

Briggs has officially switched job title and will be Liverpool’s first-team set-piece coach – having effectively filled the role throughout last season already.

His shift in responsibility comes with Brazilian coach Luiz Fernando Iubel beginning work as new individual development lead coach on Monday, following a move from Atletico Mineiro.

Liverpool have also appointed Lewis Mahoney as their new first-team set-piece analyst, with the 36-year-old joining from Southampton.

Mahoney held the same role for almost two years at Southampton having previously served as a performance analyst for both Swansea and Bristol Rovers.

His duties will be in supporting Briggs as they implement new approaches to both defending and attacking set-pieces.

Arne Slot‘s side were particularly proficient in both areas during their 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, which was decided by Dominik Szoboszlai‘s spectacular free-kick.

While there will have been less input from Briggs when it came to Szoboszlai’s stunning goal from over 30 yards, the Reds were able to nullify Arsenal‘s biggest threat from corners.

The appointment of Iubel and Mahoney comes following another major reshuffle in the backroom staff at Liverpool over the summer.

Assistant coach John Heitinga left to take over as head coach at Ajax and was replaced by countryman Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Goalkeepers coaches Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel both departed with Xavi Valero returning to the club as head of first-team goalkeeper coaching and Colin Stewart brought in as goalkeeper development and pathway lead.

There was also a restructuring of Liverpool’s medical department under director of medicine and performance Jonathan Power.

Lee Nobes’ role of head physio was tweaked to head of rehab physiotherapy, with Conall Murtagh becoming head of physical performance and Chris Morgan head of performance physical therapy.
