Novak Djokovic’s quest for a 25th Grand Slam title and fifth US Open championship continued on Tuesday night.
Djokovic defeated Taylor Fritz with a 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win in the quarterfinal round at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
As Fritz struggled with unforced errors early, Djokovic took a 5-3 lead to open the first set. Fritz failed to convert five break points in the ensuing game, which included a 25-shot rally. Djokovic went on to win the first set.
Djokovic jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the second set, although Fritz recorded his first break of the match and went on to tie the score 5-5. The excitement was short-lived, as his serve was broken in the very next game before Djokovic cruised to a 7-5 victory.
Fritz fought back to take the third set with multiple breaks, drawing Djokovic into long service games.
Both players held serve for the first nine games of the fourth set, although Djokovic finally broke Fritz with a 5-4 lead to emerge victorious in the match.
Fritz struggled to capitalize on his opportunities throughout the match, converting just two of 13 break point chances.
Djokovic continued to excel in the individual matchup with Fritz, now boasting a flawless 11-0 head-to-head record against the American throughout his career.
Tuesday’s win continued an impressive 2025 US Open run for the 38-year-old, as he dropped just two sets in his first four matches. He battled through a neck injury as well as a blister on his right toe during the tournament.
Now, Djokovic will be moving on to face Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal.
