Broncos powerbrokers reportedly have a desire for superstar fullback Reece Walsh to clean up his public image in the wake of his latest social media debacle.

Brisbane bosses reportedly held conversations with Walsh after he posted a bizarre video on Monday which showed him put his hand in a toilet and drink the water out of the bowl.

While the footage was simply a prank, it is not the first time Broncos chief’s have had to speak privately with Walsh regarding his social media output this season according to Code Sports.

However, the fullback delivered another social media gibe on Tuesday morning, posting a photo of his dog in Bunnings in front of a sign that read: “Thru to plumbing”.

The Broncos are reportedly considering hiring a crisis chief to work specifically with Walsh to manage his personal image.

“The Broncos have suggested he may need his own PR handler, he’s so popular, he has a huge following on YouTube, Instagram,” NRL360 host Braith Anasta said on Wednesday night.

“He is a rock star really of our game. Are they saying he needs someone by his side 24/7 so he doesn’t do things like this again?”

To which The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis responded: “I think there is someone that works closely with him on his image… but in terms of an out and out handler… he has got with the stage where there has to be someone safeguarding what he is posting”.

Earlier this season, a video of Walsh punching a friend with a boxing glove while he was also under fire for a fiery response to a journalist’s comments regarding Ezra Mam.

Broncos chief Dave Donaghy was reportedly left with a bad taste in his mouth following the punching video.

Walsh has over 540,000 followers on Instagram alone and is one of the NRL’s highest profile players, having launched his own YouTube channel earlier this year.

The Broncos reportedly are supportive of Walsh sharing his day-to-day life on social media, but also want to avoid any impacts on the team’s culture.

“He needs better friends around him, we have called him on a lot of games… every time I have ever watched him play he does a big walk,” league legend Gorden Tallis said.

“He does a lot for his image, but then it’s just putting the phone down when he has his private time.”

Meanwhile, prominent commentator Dan Ginnane explained hiring social media experts is nothing new in the world of sports.

“Hiring social media managers to run your social media accounts is pretty normal,” he explained.

“I’m guessing what has happened is he feels a pressure to put content out there, and thought he’d just be funny.”

Speaking to News Corp, Australian promoter and publicist Max Markson explained Walsh should adopt Arnold Schwarzenegger’s attitude.

“He has half-a-million followers, so if he plays good football, works hard and wins games, he will be fine.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger always said, ‘Don’t listen to the critics, work your arse off and get results’.

“That’s what Reece should do, work his arse off and keep playing well.”
