Iga Swiatek reflects on US Open defeat to Amanda Anisimova

On what went wrong: “I think the serve what made the difference. She was winning, I guess, more points from her serve, and I struggled a bit to sometimes make the first serve in, and she returned the ball from second serve. So I guess that made a difference.”

On facing Anisimova after the 6-0 6-0 at Wimbledon: “It didn’t really matter for me. I think everybody knows how Amanda can play. She didn’t play well in Wimbledon, but it’s not like she’s always going to do the same mistakes or feel the same.

“I know that she’s a good player. She can play great tennis. So I was ready for a tough match.”

The key to Naomi Osaka’s second US Open breakthrough: ‘This is unchartered territory’

Shortly after giving birth to her daughter Shai in July 2023, Naomi Osaka returned to the US Open.

Her comeback to the Arthur Ashe Stadium, and a court where she had lifted two of her four grand slam singles titles, was to sit in the stands and watch Coco Gauff play Karolina Muchova in the semi-finals. As Gauff advanced on her way to winning the US Open, Osaka set herself a target: she was determined to reach that stage again.

Now, the four-time grand slam champion is back in a major quarter-final for the first time in four years

US Open women’s semi-finals continue

Anisimova will play Naomi Osaka or Karolina Muchova in the US Open semi-final and their quarter-final is getting underway shortly.

Osaka is a two-time US Open champion while Muchova has reached the semi-finals in the last two years, but has played a lot of tennis at this tournament, requiring three sets in five matches in a row.

Muchova defeated Osaka in the second round here last year.
