Five Real Madrid players have reportedly ‘lost the trust’ of new head coach Xabi Alonso, with the Spaniard preparing to implement huge changes in the coming months.

Los Blancos have made a strong start to the 2025-26 La Liga campaign, overcoming Osasuna, Real Oviedo and Mallorca, with nine points from three matches leaving them at the top of the La Liga table.

However, according to Fichajes, Alonso has already made up his mind over Raul Asencio, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos, David Alaba and Andriy Lunin, with all five not in his plans moving forward.

Asencio made 46 appearances for Real Madrid last season, with the Spaniard benefitting from injuries to Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and Alaba are certain stages, but he struggled during the Club World Cup.

The Spaniard has not played a single minute of football for Alonso’s side this term, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future, with clubs from Turkey thought to be keen on his services.

Alaba is also yet to be used this season, with the Austrian falling down the pecking order at Bernabeu.

The experienced defender has recovered from his latest injury problem to make the bench for the team’s three La Liga games this term, but he is behind Dean Huijsen, Rudiger and Militao in the pecking order.

Alaba is also being linked with a move to Turkey, with Real Madrid thought to be keen to move on their second-highest earner, but his contract is due to expire next summer, so it is a complicated sale.

Mendy is yet to feature this season due to injury, and Alvaro Carreras has taken the starting left-back spot at Bernabeu.

Lunin, meanwhile, is the number two goalkeeper at the club, and he has been an unused substitute in the team’s three La Liga matches, with Thibaut Courtois the first choice at Bernabeu.

Ceballos has featured this season, but he has totalled just 22 minutes in La Liga, and he is down the pecking order when it comes to the spots in the middle of midfield.

The Spaniard was heavily linked with a move away from Bernabeu over the summer, but a proposed move to Marseille broke down at the final moment.

When recently asked about Ceballos, Alonso said: “I spoke to him and it has been resolved that he is staying. My opinion hasn’t changed. He’s staying, he’s one of the squad. And I’m happy with him. the decision seems final. He still has the same role as before, it doesn’t change my view of him.”

The 29-year-old has scored seven goals and registered 16 assists in 195 matches for Real Madrid, and he could be on the move during the January transfer window if the right opportunity arrives.
