SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Golfers hit the links at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls on Saturday, participating in the Caring for Carter Golf Tournament.
Over 100 golfers on 30 teams showed up to participate in the tournament, which raised awareness and funds to research CTNNB1 Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.
It’s so rare that only around 500 cases are confirmed worldwide, but it affects one Garretson family and their son, Carter, who is battling the disease.
“It means the world. We can’t thank these guys enough. We’ve got all of these people that are going to raise some good money, hopefully find a cure for Carter. That’s the ultimate goal, and that sounds like a promising future. So, hopefully we can accomplish that,” said Carter’s father, Luke Dreckman.

The Dreckmans said there are trials for molecule development, hopefully starting within the next twelve months, which means progress towards a potential cure is in the works.
