CATS RAMP UP MARSHALL PURSUIT
Premiership favourite Geelong has ramped up its pursuit of trade target Rowan Marshall by speaking with the Saints ruckman in recent days, reports Seven’s Mitch Cleary.
Marshall is weighing up his future at the Saints after the club secured the signature of free agent Tom De Koning on a big money deal in a move that would see the ex-Blue and Marshall share ruck duties.
As Marshall is contracted for two more seasons, he can only be acquired via trade.
The 29-year old was noncommittal on his future at Moorabbin when pressed on the topic in July.

“Chris Scott always say the Cats can walk and chew gum at the same time,” Cleary revealed on Seven News.
“He’s proving it once again. In the midst of another finals series, the Cats have spoken with Marshall in recent days as he explores a potential trade.”
Cleary noted that, given Marshall’s contract status, the “starting point” of a deal would be a first-round pick. The Cats currently hold selection No. 17.
It comes after Geelong’s incumbent ruckman, Rhys Stanley, 34, missed the club’s qualifying final win over Brisbane with a hamstring issue.
Stanley is currently uncontracted for 2026.
The Cats have also been linked to Hawthorn free agent James Worpel.
GIANTS PAIR TO REQUEST TRADES
Giants pair Leek Aleer and Wade Derksen are set to request trades away from the club at their exit meetings this week, according to Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph.
Aleer, 25, will seek a move to St Kilda, with the Saints reportedly still keen on the defender despite swooping on free agent Jack Silvagni to already bolster ross Lyon’s back six.
The former Pick 15 was offered a longer deal by the Saints on more money than the Giants. Aleer can only move clubs via trade as the 194cm player doesn’t yet qualify for free agency.

It comes after Liam Ryan requested a trade to St Kilda last week in what shapes as busy recruiting period for the club with Silvagni and Tom De Koning set to join the club in free agency.
Ralph said Callum Wilkie is expected to remain at Moorabbin, despite a long-term offer from the Western Bulldogs, but St Kilda “would be wise to re-contract him on a higher rate” than his current deal which runs for two more seasons.
Meanwhile Derksen will again ask to be traded to Melbourne, 12 months after that move wasn’t facilitated, with GWS “prepared to strike a deal with the Demons for a later selection.”
There’s also a watch on Giants free agents Jacob Wehr, who’s been linked to Port Adelaide, and Josh Fahey.
