Lisa O’Rourke will box for a medal at the World Championships
Lisa O’Rourke joined her sister Aoife in qualifying to box for a medal at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool after the younger O’Rourke outclassed her Colombian opponent, forcing two standing counts in the second round.
She was a 5-0 victor over Shirleidis Orozco in a bout which included a point deduction for the Colombian, and now the Tarmon native will box for a medal on Tuesday evening.
Michaela Walsh, however, bowed out after the 57kg double Olympian lost her last-16 contest against Shih-Yin Wu of Chinese Taipei, 4-1.
Patsy Joyce won his opening World Boxing Championships bout by unanimous decision in a last-32 bout against Jaeyong Shin of Korea.
The fight featured points deductions for both boxers.
