The government has caved to opposition demands to expedite 20,000 additional home care packages in the next two months, avoiding an embarrassing political defeat and delays in the rollout of its aged care reforms.
The U-turn followed pressure from a cross-party alliance on the opposition benches who pushed this week for the early release of thousands of care packages for elderly Australians.
