The Southern – Final Results (HTML)

Statesboro, Ga. – Western Carolina senior Sadler Miller paced the Catamounts scoring five as play concluded Tuesday at The Southern, hosted by Georgia Southern at the Forest Heights Country Club. One of two roster returners, Miller finished tied for 26th overall to lead the way as WCU finished its second event of the young season in 13th-place overall.

While Miller led the team in the final finishing order, it was a pair of newcomers to the roster that carded the best final rounds on a day where most of the scoring was elevated. Graduate transfer EC Niebauer and sophomore Elsa Maren Steinarsdôttir both posted final round scores of 79, finishing in a tie for 35th and 54th, respectively. Niebauer countered nine bogeys with a pair of birdies on Tuesday, while Steinarsdôttir birdied the par-3 15th against a double-bogey and six bogeys.

Nine of Miller’s team-best 10 birdies were charted in Monday’s first two rounds, shooting 8-over par 80 in the final round to finish the event with a three-round score of 230. Niebauer (t-35th, 232) was second with seven birdies, with Steinarsdôttir recording four over the two days in southern Georgia.

Rounding out WCU’s finishers was sophomore Annalee Caveney in a tie for 66th with a score of 250 (81-85-84), and sophomore transfer Emily Rosenschein in 70th (256).

Eastern Michigan pulled away for a commanding 25-stroke victory over runner-up Florida Gulf Coast as the pair of Eagle monikers sat perched atop the leaderboard. EMU shot 11-over par 875 to win, while FGCU finished at 900 (+36). Georgia State posted the best final-round score at 305 to climb to third place against in-state rival Georgia Southern by three strokes, 905-to-908, halting the string of three consecutive event wins by GSU. James Madison capped the top five with a two-day total of 912.

Georgia State’s TK Kongthong helped lead the resurgent Panthers, matching second-round leader Janae Leovao of Eastern Michigan for individual medalist honors with matching scores of even-par, 216.  EMU finished with four individuals among the Top 10, including third-place Jasmine Leovao, a stroke in arrears at 217.
