Doja Cat puzzled fans when she pulled out a lipstick on the VMAs red carpet and, after reapplying the rouge, took a bite out of it and ate it.

The cameras flashed as she chewed on the lipstick and she giggled as many were left confused.

But as it turns out, it wasn’t an impulse decision on the American musician’s part but a delicious stunt she cooked up with a famous chef.

The lipstick Doja Cat munched on on the red carpet was a replica of her signature MAC lipstick Lady Danger made out of chocolate by Amaury Guichon, the French-Swiss pastry chef known as ‘The Chocolate Guy’.

MAC Cosmetics shared a video to it’s official Instagram page following music’s night of nights to reveal the truth behind the red carpet lipstick stunt.

“You didn’t really think we’d let Doja Cat eat Lady Danger … did you,” the cosmetics brand captioned the video.

“We brought in Amaury Guichon to help her bite the Lipstick bullet on the red carpet of music’s biggest night.”

The video shows Guichon in the kitchen putting together the viral creation.

He starts by making a caramel filling before piping it into red, lipstick-shaped chocolate shells.

He then carefully carved out the specific MAC branding into each chocolate lipstick before placing them into the signature MAC casing.

The lipstick stunt came moments before the artist was named MAC Cosmetics’ latest Global Ambassador.

It was also the latest collaboration for Guichon who is known for his elaborate chocolate creations and has partnered with several stars in the past.

Last year, Guichon received a call from Umbrella singer Rihanna, asking him to create a chocolate Lego sculpture of her husband A$AP Rocky for his birthday.

Speaking with 9honey Kitchen in an interview earlier this year, Guichon revealed that the moment was “awesome”.

”Getting a call from a talented individual like Rihanna is definitely a milestone in terms of how far I’ve come from my humble beginning in France all the way to places like that,” he said.

Guichon’s chocolate career has also given him the chance to meet skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, supermodel Adriana Lima, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, among others. And now, of course, he’s partnered with Doja Cat.

“It’s awesome to think that from a humble beginning as a pastry chef you get to meet people at the peak of their craft, the peak of their arts and share passionate moments between people who really master their craft,” Guichon reflected.
