Allen Blickle, the original drummer of the Grammy-nominated band Baroness has died. He was 42.
The heavy metal band posted a statement to Instagram announcing his death.
“It breaks my heart to have to share the news that my dear friend, creative partner and former bandmate Allen Blickle passed away a few days ago,” the statement read.

“I’m still in shock that he’s gone. We ask for understanding as his family and this band process his passing and grieve his loss.
“Allen, I love you and miss you. I treasure every moment we shared.”

Since the announcement was posted, tributes from fans, colleagues and loved ones have been flowing for the late musician.
”RIP to Allen Blickle, an incredible drummer and a key component of what made those first few Baroness releases so magical,” one fan wrote.
“I feel very privileged to have seen him perform with them four times,” he added.
”Feeling sad to hear my friend Allen Blickle has left the earth,” wrote American record producer and engineer John Congleton.
“Allen and I made a few records together and good times were always had. Fantastic drummer with an ineffable feel.”

Musician Laura Pleasants, of the band Kylesa, also shared a tribute to her Instagram.
“Dear Allen… I was so heartbroken when talking w Joe and Summer the other day; finding out how the past month was,” she wrote.
“I am just gutted, dude. We all thought you had this thing beat.
“Gone too soon my friend. I’m glad you are at peace and no longer in pain. Much love to you,” she concluded her post.
No cause of death has been revealed.

Blickle formed Baroness in 2003 with lead singer John Baizley, bassist Summer Welch and guitarist Tim Loose.
He featured on the band’s 2007 Red Album, the 2009 Blue Record and the 2012 Yellow & Green.
The band was involved in a serious incident in 2012 when their tour bus fell 9 metres from a viaduct in Bath.
Allen Blickle suffered fractured vertebrae from the crash and was hospitalised for nearly three weeks.

The band was forced to cancel the last six dates of their 2012 tour. Blickle went on to leave the band in early 2013, just months after the crash.
Blickle went on to play with Romantic Dividends, Alpaca and A Place To Bury Strangers.
But more recently he put his energy into working as a composer and sound designer and worked on the 2020 Netflix series We Are The Champions.
