Apple conducted a product launch event yesterday to unveil a handful of new products, including a new iPhone and updated Apple Watch models. The company also introduced new software features for its wearable which will also be released for existing models down the line.
One of those features is Sleep Score. If that name sounds familiar, that’s because the feature has been available on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch wearables since 2023, when One UI 5 Watch was unveiled.
Apple Watch can finally show a sleep score now
It had first emerged two months ago that Apple may make a similar sleep score feature and offer it on its upcoming wearable devices. References to the feature were discovered in iOS 26 code. In addition to the new wearables, Apple has confirmed that Sleep Score will also be available on a handful of existing models.
The Apple Watch has already supported sleep tracking for years now. The Sleep Score feature kicks things up a notch. It utilizes various metrics such as blood oxygen, heart rate, respiratory data, and more to provide an overall score for the quality of your sleep.
That’s precisely what Samsung’s feature does, which is also called Sleep Score. It also provides in-depth information about sleep stages, total sleep time, movements, and awakenings. Samsung’s work on sleep tracking so far has been exceptional and it has delivered a far more useful feature for users.
Once again, Apple’s lagged behind Samsung to deliver a genuinely useful capability to users, it’s becoming a bit of a trend now. At least Samsung can claim brownie points that it was the inspiration for Apple’s move to finally incorporate a sleep score feature.
