Riga, Latvia – An ankle injury for Cedi Osman concerns Turkiye and head coach Ergin Ataman.
On the way to the Semifinals of EuroBasket 2025 and a meeting with Greece in Xiaomi Arena on Friday, the 59-year-old play-caller of the senior national team of his country updated the status of the 30-year-old small forward.
“We had meetings with our medical staff all morning,” he mentioned in an interview with TRT Spor, “They are trying to help Cedi cope with the pain and prepare him for the game.”
Osman was hurt during the Quarterfinals against Poland on Tuesday. Following an exit and initial treatment, he later returned to the floor to end up with ten points, five rebounds, and two assists over 24 minutes.
“Their biggest concern was a stress fracture. That’s what it looked like. Thankfully, he avoided a stress fracture,” explained Ataman, “He has bone swelling in that area, preventing him from putting any weight on his foot.”
“He wanted to return to the court in this condition. He will play under any circumstances, but we do not know how effective he can be,” added the head coach of Turkiye, noting that his player will not practice until gameday, “If he is only at 50%, it is better not to use him.”
“We will make a decision based on possible progress,” clarified Ataman, “Cedi definitely wants to play, but his injury is serious. He has some time until Friday night, so I hope he can make progress. If the game were today or tomorrow, he surely would not be able to play.”
