The biggest cheer of the day was undoubtedly reserved for Liverpool fighter Odel Kamara.
The 21-year-old, who trains out of Salisbury ABC – just two miles from the arena – looked confident as he stared down his opponent as he entered the ring, before exploding with early combinations in typical fashion.
Mongolia’s Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar managed to land two big shots in the first round, but had no answer for the onslaught of punches over the next two, eventually going down 5-0.
“It was a full circle moment for me walking out in front of Tony Bellew as I used to watch him here. I didn’t want to lose focus before the fight by looking at him, but when I walked out of the ring after, I went over to him and said thank you to him because it means the world to me that he’s here,” Kamara told Olympics.com after.
Kamara also acknowledged the extra energy he received from the fans.
“Any time I feel any fatigue, which I don’t usually, they push me through it, and it gives me a whole new level of fitness.
“It’s nice to secure a middle, but I’m only interested in one colour, and that’s gold.”
