STAR DOCKER SETTLES TRADE DUST ONCE AND FOR ALL
Fremantle star Luke Jackson has put to bed all speculation regarding a potential move back to Melbourne, after completing his annual exit meeting.
Following their heartbreaking one-point loss to Gold Coast in last Saturday’s elimination final, the Dockers players this week had exit interviews, where the 23-year-old reaffirmed to the club that he is all in at Cockburn.
It comes after speculation in mid-May that the former Demon would request a trade back to his first AFL club for personal reasons.
“There was so much speculation he’d request a trade back to Melbourne, (but) that’s not happening,” Midweek Tackle’s Jon Ralph told Fox Footy on Wednesday night.
“In his exit meeting today, he reaffirmed the fact that he’s really committed to this footy club. He wants to train where he plays.
“He trained as a forward all (last) summer. Then we saw Patrick Voss emerge, so all of a sudden he had to play as a midfielder and a ruckman from Round 1. He’s absolutely resolute though.”
After moving from Melbourne at the end of 2022, Jackson is contracted at the Dockers until the end of 2029.
Jackson was almost Fremantle’s match-winner in the do-or-die final against the Suns, slotting a goal to put the Dockers in front by a goal with under three and a half minutes remaining.
‘DESPERATE TO GET OUT’: PROMISING HAWKS DUO ON MOVE?
Despite Hawthorn securing their second finals series in as many years under Sam Mitchell, a pair of young Hawks are reportedly ready for a fresh start in 2026.
Small forward Sam Butler and out-of-favour midfielder Henry Hustwaite have each been linked to rival clubs in recent days, having only played four games at AFL level apiece this season.
“West Coast are very keen on Hawthorn small forward Sam Butler … they feel he can fill forward need, or even a midfield need,” Ralph revealed on Midweek Tackle.
“Henry Hustwaite is desperate to get out of Hawthorn. He wants a chance (elsewhere), he’s ready.
Carlton has been mentioned in dispatches; they’re a no. But Essendon is the club that’s potentially considering that.”
After eight games out of the senior side, Butler returned to the fold for Hawthorn in last week’s 19-point elimination final win over GWS to register seven disposals and a crucial fourth quarter goal.
Hustwaite hasn’t played at the top level since Round 14 against Adelaide, and was subbed out in each of his last two games this season.
He is contracted at Waverley Park until the end of 2026, while Butler is out of contract this season.
