For Meso, the call confirming her place in the squad is one she will never forget.
“It was really cool. I was in Sun City. I was at the Lions’ team building and we were having a team dinner.
“And I thought my mom was calling me because she said she was going to call me. And then when I pick up my phone, it was the selector. And I was like, oh, if it’s good news.
“And obviously I went to the side and then it felt unreal.”
With her first senior World Cup ahead, the 17-year-old’s focus is not on changing who she is as a player, but on making the most of the opportunity in her own style.
“I’ve been thinking about it and I’ve been thinking big things. I’ll just say for me, it’s just being the person who I am all the time. I can’t be someone else because I’m going to a World Cup.
“Just being KB, just enjoying every moment that the coach is giving the opportunity to play, support my team, everyone around me and just play cricket.”
South Africa will kick off their World Cup campaign against England on the 3rd of October in Guwahati.
