The long-running reality series Survivor is set to launch its 49th season later this month, introducing 18 new competitors to the beaches of Fiji as they battle for a $1 million prize and the title of Sole Survivor.
The new season, fast-tracked from the US on Thursday, September 25, will premiere on 9Now and 9Go with a two-hour premiere before shifting to a 90-minute format from early October. The show continues to be hosted by Jeff Probst and filmed in Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands, maintaining the 26-day format first introduced in season 41.

Returning elements of gameplay will include new tribe formations, physical and mental challenges, shifting alliances and hidden advantages. Cast members have indicated they expect both new twists and references to strategies from earlier instalments.
This year also marks Survivor’s 25th anniversary, with anticipation building for its milestone 50th season. The program continues to attract strong ratings and was nominated for multiple Emmy Awards in 2024.
Season 49 of Survivor will premiere in Australia on Thursday 25 September streaming on 9Now and broadcast at 7.30pm on 9Go.
