Jake Weatherald reveals why he admires Travis Head’s mentality
Weatherald said he has always looked up to Head more than any other cricketer he has been around. He explained that Head has a rare ability to deal with failure without letting it affect him.
“I have always admired him the most out of the every cricketer I have ever been around. I have been around some pretty amazing cricketers in the way they’re prepared but he is someone who is so amazing at, I’ll say in the most nice way possible, but he’s sort of like he can accept failure better than anyone else that I ever seen,” said Weatherald.
Even during training, when things don’t go well, Head never shows stress. Weatherald recalled watching him in practice where he kept edging balls and looked totally out of form.
“I’ve watched him train so much and I have sat there just gone like. This guy looks like he should be, you know, playing C grade, sort of stuff. You know, he’s nicking off every second ball and then he walks out of training session,” he added.
Curious, Weatherald asked if he was fine with a match the next day. Head just laughed and pointed out one nice cover drive he had played, saying that was enough for him.

For Weatherald, it was shocking as he thought Head would not score at all in the match. But the next day, Head walked out and smashed runs with ease.
Weatherald admitted he himself would have lost sleep stressing, but Head’s calm attitude made all the difference.
How has Travis Head performed for Australia?
The relaxed approach that Weatherald spoke about has shown up many times on the international stage. Whenever Head scores a century for Australia, it almost guarantees a win.
He has done this in Test cricket, ODIs, and most famously in big finals like the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup.
Head has now scored 16 international centuries, seven in ODIs and nine in Tests. Remarkably, Australia has never lost a game when he has crossed three figures, except for one drawn Test against India in Brisbane.

Since his first hundred in 2017 against Pakistan, he has piled runs against top teams like England, India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka and changed the game completely.
How Jake Weatherald built his career in Sheffield Shield cricket
Born in Darwin, Weatherald made his name with South Australia before moving to Tasmania. A natural stroke-maker, he piled up 904 runs in last season’s Sheffield Shield at a healthy strike-rate of 68.27.
Over eight seasons, he has produced several hundreds, including two in the same match in 2017-18, showing his value in red-ball cricket.
Despite ups and downs, Weatherald says being around players like Travis Head has shaped his outlook.
