Ransom Canyon Season 2 has started production, and for star Garrett Wareing, the second installment marks a homecoming following the release of Lionsgate’s The Long Walk, in which he stars as Stebbins.

In an interview with Deadline about the Stephen King adaptation, the actor hinted at some upcoming change for his Ransom Canyon character Lucas Russell, who worked for Josh Duhamel’s Staten Kirkland and pursued Lauren Brigman (Lizzy Greene) in a love triangle with Andrew Liner’s Reid Collins last season.

“I think we saw a lot of joy and lover boy golden retriever energy within Lucas in the first season. Without giving too much away, I think we’re going to see a nice contrast for Lucas in Season 2,” Wareing told Deadline in an interview last Friday.

Aside from the land development conflict for Kirkland’s Double K Ranch and the other love triangles in the show, Lucas’ older brother Kit ( Casey W. Johnson) became the main suspect in Staten’s son’s death by car accident, but the brothers were reunited in the Season 1 finale when the truth came to the surface. Deadline broke the news that Johnson was promoted to series regular for Season 2 in August.

“Getting to watch these character dynamics unfold in larger ways as the intermingling of these storylines is happening — I got some scripts — so I’m very excited to bring these characters, to screen again, and develop them even further,” Wareing added.

The actor filmed his audition for The Long Walk in between takes on set for Season 1 of Ransom Canyon. As of a week ago, he had returned to the set of the Netflix Western series in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“I just moved back. I had this Q & A for The Long Walk on Tuesday night. By Wednesday night, I had arrived — I drove 12 hours — in Albuquerque. Yesterday, I got to walk back into the Russell trailer. I walked back into Gracie’s Dance Hall and the Double K Ranch,” Wareing shared last week. “I just was filled with this immense joy and this feeling of ‘We did it, we got back here.’ Jack [Schumacher] is back, Lizzy’s back. We’re rocking and rolling. We start filming next week, and I have cowboy camp. We’re back, baby.”

Wareing also teased an upcoming project separate from promoting the dystopian film and returning to Ransom Canyon.

“I just wrapped an amazing film last month that I’m very excited to share more about. I wrapped it five days ago, he revealed. “There’s just a lot happening in my life, and I think I just want to say that the dream is real for those who want to pursue it. I almost quit acting like two years ago — threw in the towel and said, ‘I’m done,’ and Ransom Canyon changed my life.”
