Karen Cooney will cycle from Timperley to Chirk in North Wales and back as part of the Timperley Boneshakers’ annual fundraising ride.

She will be joined by her husband, Dominic and fellow club members on the 155-mile round trip, which begins on September 20.

Mrs Cooney, a public health project support officer at Trafford Council, said: “Cycling has always been something I’ve enjoyed.

“Being part of the Boneshakers is a great way to socialise and keep fit as well.

“It’s fantastic that the club is supporting such a worthy cause.

“We’re looking forward to the ride – we just hope the weather is kind to us.

“It will be a challenge, but we’ll get there.”

The Timperley Boneshakers will cycle 83 miles to Chirk on the first day and return 72 miles the following day, supported by a team vehicle.

This year, the ride will raise funds for the Little Green Sock Project, a Trafford-based charity helping children and families living in poverty.

The charity collects and redistributes pre-loved clothes, shoes, toys, books, and baby equipment, as well as providing hygiene products and emergency items.

Mrs Cooney has been a member of the Boneshakers for more than 10 years and has been fitting in training around her schedule, often using a turbo trainer in her kitchen.

She regularly joins other club members on evening rides through the Cheshire lanes.

The charity ride can attract up to 20 to 25 riders each year, raising funds for a different good cause each time.

Donations can be made through the team’s JustGiving page, www.justgiving.com/page/timperleyboneshakers25.

The Little Green Sock Project aims to reduce inequalities and give children the best start in life.
