Captain Darcy Macpherson has won the John Law Medal in his inaugural season at Arden Street, following a standout campaign for North Melbourne’s VFL side.
The 27-year-old joined the Kangaroos after playing 72 AFL games over nine seasons with the Gold Coast Suns. He was immediately appointed captain, averaging more than 23.6 disposals per game in his first year at the club.
Macpherson proved to be a consistently versatile player, excelling in the midfield and at half-back, where his ball use could break open a game. He also kicked some timely goals throughout the season, finishing on a personal high with 36 touches and two majors against Southport in the final round.
Matthew Keast, another first-year Roo, finished in second place with 109 votes. Keast crossed from Werribee, where he spent three seasons, and quickly became a key contributor at North Melbourne, averaging 19.4 disposals for the year. He also received the VFL Best Clubman Award for his team-first attitude and selflessness.
Key defender Adam Tomlinson was rewarded for his consistent first season at Arden Street, finishing in third place with 98 votes. He was the only Roo named in the 40-man VFL Team of the Year squad.
AFL-listed players Will Phillips (89 votes) and Geordie Payne (88 votes) completed the top five.
